Prostitution kommt von lat. pro = hervor und stare, stitutio = stehen. Also vor stellen, her zeigen, an preisen, vermarkten, Marketing, Marktwirtschaft ... (soweit eine nicht-putophobe Etymologie)

Wer was verkaufen will, muß seine Waren vorzeigen. Dienstleister müssen sich selbst in Szene setzen. Da können wir von den Pornostars lernen durch hinschauen.

Ex-Sexworker, Pornostar, Künstler, Autor und Aufklärer Dr. Annie Sprinkle www.annieSprinkle.org weis wie es geht und das selbstironische How-to-Foto stammt aus ihrer Biographie.

Sexarbeiter sind oft nicht so freizügig wie Pornodarsteller vor großem Publikum und den Medien sondern sind aufgrund eines anderen Geschäftsmodells und einer anderen Stellung in der Gesellschaft lieber diskret sexuell. Da bietet es sich an, die Fotos selbst zu inszenieren, siehe z.B. im Filmclip über Lolette aus Berlin oder historisch das Vorgehen von Pinupmodel Peter Berlin etc.

Somit bleibt logischerweise auch das Copy-Right ganz bei einem selbst. Andernfalls muß man darauf achten, dass man einen guten Vertrag mit dem Fotographen macht, der die selbstbewußte künstlerische Leistung des fotographierten Darstellers angemessen würdigt (siehe die vielen Aspekte im Photo Dr. Sprinkle). Die künstlerische Leistung und damit die Rechte können durchaus ganz beim Model liegen und der Fotograph wäre dann nur der Dienstleister, der Technik ranholt und den Auslöseknopf auf Komando bedient ...

The Desiree Alliance, Sex Workers Outreach Project (SWOP-USA) and allied
organizations such as BAYSWAN and the Best Practices Policy Project are
saddened to observe the malicious tactics used by Glen Beck of Fox news
in a recent “expose” of ACORN. All of our organizations stand firmly
against the exploitation of minors in prostitution and we also oppose
trafficking in persons, but we are concerned about the way the provision
of services to adult sex workers was portrayed in the recent report.

In Glen Beck’s effort to critique ACORN via a highly edited series of
videos, he in fact belittles the efforts of sex workers who seek
services to find stable living circumstances and financial help.

“The Fox news report tears down the efforts of grassroots service
providers all over the country to reach out to hard to reach communities
of sex workers to help them,” said Tara Sawyer of SWOP-USA.

“Sex workers are already very fearful about accessing services that
could help them and these low-brow media attacks on service providers
increase barriers and harm” she added.

All of our organizations are concerned that the “expose” will cause
service providers and non-profit organizations to shy away from
providing harm reduction services and helping sex workers “where they
are at.”

“Providing sex workers with information about how to live safely, even
though what they do is criminalized, is essential,” said Susan Lopez of
Desiree Alliance “And we commend all organizations that provide these
services to prevent HIV, help sex workers find housing, seek financial
support and to take care of their health needs. Don’t turn sex workers
away because of unconscionable undercover reports like those carried out
by Fox.”

A respected research scientist seems to have ended years of intense speculation over the identity of the prostitute blogger Belle de Jour by unmasking herself as the call girl whose explicit descriptions of her encounters garnered such a passionate following that they were adapted into books and a television series.





Dr Brooke Magnanti, 34, who specialises in developmental neurotoxicology and cancer epidemiology, works for the Bristol Institute of Child Health, a hospital-based research group.

She turned to prostitution six years ago when she ran out of money while working on her PhD thesis for Sheffield University's Department of Forensic Pathology. She charged £300 an hour while working for a London escort agency. Her blog courted controversy, attracting criticism for suggesting that prostitution could be glamourous, while the quality of her writing led to intense speculation that she was an established author.

In the end, anonymity had become "no fun", Dr Magnanti said. She told The Sunday Times: "I've felt worse about my writing than I ever have about sex for money. I couldn't even go to my own book launch party."

She contacted the paper to reveal her identity of her own volition [Willensakt]. Until then, not even her agent had known her real name, and she was preparing this weekend to confess everything to her parents.

The revelations bring to a belated [verspätetes] end the literary parlour game that was all the rage a few years ago: Guess the identity of the author. Back in 2005, The Sunday Times – confident as ever – wrote that the sex diary was "largely the work of Lisa Hilton, a British author based in America, who has written about her own steamy sex life in the past". Other newspapers, The Independent among them, carried various theories. Names put briefly in the frame included: Sarah Champion, a Manchester-born writer on matters of Nineties alternative culture; Andrew Orlowski, an author who had collaborated with Ms Champion; and Michel Faber, whose novel The Crimson Petal described the life of a Victorian call girl.

Blogger Belle De Jour's coming-out press parade has been an ugly glimpse into how the public responds to well-educated sex workers who act with apparent awareness and agency. When Brooke Magnanti, a young neurotoxicologist working at a university, revealed herself to be the famous anonymous prostitute who spawned a book and TV series, the reactions were characteristic of those aimed at her while her identity was unknown: incredulity, crude criticism, and outright denial of her experiences.

The most common complaint leveled at Belle both before and after the reveal is that her memoir "glamorizes" prostitution—as though simply telling the truth about one's life is synonymous with promoting those circumstances. It's fascinating that in both England and the US, selling sex for money is assumed to be so alluring to most women as to need nothing more than one woman's non-traumatic experiences to convince thousands of other to join the hooker ranks. (Perhaps this is, in some ways, tacit acknowledgement of how few high-paying careers seem readily accessible to women or the pay gap that exists in both countries?)

It's this predictable and unhelpful line of discourse that's prompted Magnani to talk about drug addiction and street prostitution in her interviews, neither of which she has experience with, and to admit that some women have "terrible experiences" even as she tries to insist upon the integrity of her life in the biz: "You can't say I'm not real, and that my experience isn't real, because here I am." This lip service [Lippenbekenntnis. Dies ist geradezu ein gesellschaftliches Ritual. Anm.] expected from every well-adjusted and passably happy prostitute in the Western world severely hampers our ability to discuss their work in a constructive way. Magnanti's insistence that she was "unbelievably fortunate"—as though the only thing that keeps a sex worker from ending up emotionally scarred and physically abused is luck—diminishes the circumstances that allowed her to work in a healthy, safe way: screening measures, assistance from a woman with experience [covern. Ann.], and a legal status that made possible turning to the police should an emergency arise. (Indoor prostitution is not illegal in England, so Magnanti wasn't breaking any laws with her work. Nor did she skip out on paying taxes, as some press outlets have bizarrely suggested.) American prostitutes are not afforded these rights: should they contact police for help with an abusive john, it's likely they will face charges in addition to or in lieu of any charges for the client. Accepting advice from another prostitute renders the helpful peer in danger of arrest for pandering [Zuhälterei].





What few people turn their attention to amid this talk of self-delusion and constant cries of street prostitution and trafficking is the one act of Magnanti's related to her sex work that was clearly coerced: her coming out. Magnanti decided to take her story to the press under threat from a nasty ex-boyfriend who was poised to pull back the curtain himself. Although she admits she's relieved to be free of the burden of a secret life, she won't go as far as to say she'd have done so quite as publicly without that impetus.

Particularly here in the States, where prostitution is illegal and many other forms of sex work, like domination, sit in legal limbo, fear of blackmail [Erpressung] is considerable for many in the sex industry. Although the public foresees threats to prostitutes only in the form of clients, friends and family can sometimes exert even more destructive control through the privileged information they posses. Romantic relationships are particularly fraught with trouble. When spouses divorce, one can use the other's employment, current or former, to gain full custody of children without a court battle. And scorned ex-boyfriends or ex-girlfriends can take out their anger by alerting friends and family of their former partner's work.

Some may even go as far as to try to endanger their sex working ex by revealing his or her personal information to their clients. Kristen, a sensual massage provider in New York City, dealt with this after her split from a boyfriend of several years. "He got ahold of my client information and gave them my real name, my home address, " she says. "It was a really scary time. Thank God I'd screened carefully enough so that nothing bad came of it—most of my clients were just confused and angry that some strange guy was calling them. I did sever ties with everyone he contacted, though."

Ryan St. Germain, a fetish performer and director, found his personal information toyed with in a different but similarly frightening way. He and his wife at the time, Madeline, thought they were helping an aspiring model by entertaining her in their home and giving her tips on what had led to their success.
