Die Europaabgeordnete von Sinn Féin, Bairbre de Brun, hat sich im Europäischen Parlament mit der Initiative durchgesetzt, dass länderspezifische Personenstandsdukumente europaweit anerkannt werden müssen. In einem Land beispielsweise als gleichgeschlechtliche Ehe anerkannte Menschen dürfen also in einem anderen Land, das diese Regelung nicht kennt, nicht mehr als "nicht verheiratet" behandelt werden:

Bairbre de Brún MEP has voted on a strong European Parliament position in favour of the mutual recognition of all civil documents throughout the EU, which is hugely important for same-sex couples.

Speaking from Strasbourg where attempts to significantly weaken this strong position failed, de Brún said " It is essential that same-sex couples and their families can cross borders without losing custodial rights, property rights, or the right to act as next-of-kin.

"The status of same-sex couples' marriages or civil partnerships is not mutually recognised throughout Europe. This mutual recognition needs to happen in order to protect basic rights.

" Following the vote the Commission will propose ways to allow for the effects of marriages and partnerships to be recognised across the EU.

"I hope that the position we have adopted will add impetus to the campaign for this positive step towards fighting discrimination. " CRÍOCH

Aufgrund einer persönlichen Rückfrage, was denn das Forum mit Irland zu tun hat, möchte ich nochmal auf den thread-Titel hinweisen:

Es geht um Europapolitik - und der Kernbereich unseres Forengebiets befindet sich mitten in Europa
Und es geht um LGBT-Politik, deshalb steht der Beitrag unter Off Topic.

Dass diese europäische Initiative ausgerechnet von der Sinn Féin Abgeordneten ausging ist zwar bestimmt kein Zufall, tut aber inhaltlich wenig zur Sache.
