Darf ein Ex-Sexworker Lehrer sein?
Was sollen denn die Eltern der Schulkinder sagen? :-((

Sex Worker Teacher and Tenure [Anstellung auf Lebenszeit]

Updated: Wednesday, 29 Sep 2010

MYFOXNY.COM - Melissa Petro, a public school teacher and confessed former hooker, may not be in the classroom anymore, but she is far from losing her job. She has tenure.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg [der reichste New Yorker. Anm.], who has vowed to reform the teacher-tenure system , said the Department of Education is investigating its legal rights in connection with the situation. Normally, the process to fire a teacher who has tenure is very difficult, long, and expensive.

Fox 5 convened a panel to discuss teacher tenure and this situation in particular. Joining Ernie Anastos in the debate on Fox 5 News were:
- Arthur Aidala, a criminal defense attorney (der Schreihals oben rechts im Bild);
- Audacia Ray, a writer, activist, and former sex worker; and
- Councilman Fernando Cabrera, who represents the Bronx district where Melissa Petro's school is located.

Earlier this week, Bloomberg outlined his administration's plans to reform the city's school system, including the granting of tenure.

Bloomberg said the city will implement a four-tier rating system for determining whether a teacher should be awarded the lifetime job protections that come with tenure. Only teachers rated "effective" or "highly effective" will be eligible for tenure, the mayor's office said.

"This will transform the tenure system from one in which tenure is taken for granted, to one in which it must be earned through effective performance in the classroom," the mayor's office said in a press release. "Tenure may be awarded in the third year, or any time thereafter, always contingent on whether a teacher has made a significant impact on student achievement."

Bronx teacher admits: I'm an ex-hooker

Meet Melissa Petro -- the teacher who gives a new twist to "sex ed."

The tattooed former hooker and stripper has been teaching art in a Bronx elementary school for three years, The Post has learned.

Calling herself a "for mer sex worker," the well-liked teacher has been shockingly up front about her past -- posting online accounts of her sexcapades in Mexico and London.

But in her boldest move, the 30-year-old posted an essay this month claiming she also had been a prostitute.

"From October 2006 to January 2007, I accepted money in exchange for sexual services I provided to men I met online in what was then called the 'erotic services' section of Craigslist.org," wrote Petro on The Huffington Post, using her real name and picture.

TOMAS E. GASTON

The attached bio identifies Petro, who has an MFA in creative nonfiction from The New School, as a "former sex worker, researcher, writer, educator, and feminist."

It appears she managed to keep her shenanigans a secret from parents at PS 70 -- who were stunned by the revelation.

"I don't want nobody that used to do that to be around my kid," said Grace Ventura, whose son is in third grade. "People like that should not be allowed to be anywhere near children."

Yocelyn Quezada said perhaps Petro had managed to turn her life around, but she still fumed that a former money honey was teaching two of her three kids.

"She's not a good role model. I do not want my daughters to find out about this," Quezada said, "and I do not want my daughters to be around that kind of person."

Despite predicting in one online posting that "that this would be a conversation I'd someday be compelled to have," Petro declined twice to speak with The Post.

Principal Kerry Castellano referred questions to the Department of Education's press office, which said Petro had been reassigned to administrative duties pending an investigation

But Petro's posts show she was warned by at least two school staffers -- including one administrator -- that her refusal to be more cautious about her history could land her in hot water.

"In an off the record conversation, a sympathetic administrator kindly asked if I couldn't publish under a pseudonym. I wish, for her sake, I could," Petro recently wrote on The Rumpus, an online magazine.

Petro, who earns $61,000 a year, also wrote that a co-worker had warned her that some of her colleagues were beginning to Google her.

"There have been lots of rumors going around about her for a while now," one school worker told The Post. "I wouldn't want my kid to be in a school where she is."

Melissa Petro:

Not Safe For Work

  • Today, I realize the truth — that it is not sex work that society fears is dangerous, but sex workers. ...

For sake of the rights and integrity of myself and every other man or woman who makes or has made choices similar to mine, and then tries to make sense of these choices, I cannot publish under a pseudonym. I learned along the way that you are only as sick as your secrets.” My writing and performing my work has been my salvation. I wrote myself out of the hell of secrecy and into the body of the woman I am today, capable of making meaning of myself and my experience

A Renegade History of the United States
Geschichte der Außenseiter

  • "Decades before American employers offered health insurance to their workers, madams across the West provided their employees with free health care. While women were told that they could not and should not ...protect themselves from violence, and wives had no legal recourse against being raped by their husbands, police officers were employed by madams to protect the women who worked for them, and many madams owned and knew how to use guns."

"When women were barred from most jobs and wives had no legal right to own property, madams in the West owned large tracts of land and prized real estate."

"Prostitutes made, by far, the highest wages of all American women."

"At a time when birth control was effectively banned, prostitutes provided a market for contraceptives that made possible their production and distribution."

Doppelmoral dokumentiert

Bild

Senior U.S. District Judge Jack T. Camp, 67, arrested Friday (1. Okt. 2010)
minutes after he handed an undercover law enforcement agent $160 for cocaine and Roxycodone
that he intended to use with the exotic dancer

Camp is a Vietnam War veteran who was appointed to the bench by Ronald Reagan in 1987. He is a former chief judge for the Northern District of Georgia.

Before his arrest, the judge Jack Camp recently ruled on a case involving a Georgia county’s regulating strip clubs and alcohol. ... Some local people challenged the ordinance, and when the county offered no justification for its discriminatory laws, the judge simply accepted the county’s assertion—strip clubs cause crime—and dismissed the lawsuit.

A corrupt judge supported the government’s power grab, depriving people of their rights. Then it turns out the judge was a customer of the very industry, illegally exercising the rights he had helped steal from local people.

And people continue to be so incoherent about sexuality that they still don’t understand: when you let the government bully people about something you don’t care about, it’s only a matter of time before it bullies people about something you do care about. ...

The news media leer at an old man paying a drugged-up young whore to sleep with him, rather than exposing another unconstitutional victory in the War On Sex.

Sarah Jessica Parker to raise awareness about sex trafficking

Press Trust of India
Saturday, October 23, 2010 (New York)

Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker has joined hands with up and coming actress Gabourey Sidibe to raise awareness about sex trafficking.

The Hollywood A-listers lent their voices to public service announcements drawing attention to a new hotline for trafficking victims, reported New York Post online.

"At least 100,000 American children are trafficked into prostitution in the United States each year," Parker said in a radio spot.

"It's important that we fight this plague that affects the lives of so many of our children," added the 45-year-old mother-of-three {Komm.:Damit der Leser versteht, dass die Frau im wirklichen Leben kein versautes Sexbiest ist, sondern eine anständige, einfühlsame Mutter}.

"These kids can be runaways or victims of abusive parents ...they're desperate, they're vulnerable and they're lost," Sidibe, who received an Oscar nomination for her role as a sexually abused teen in 'Precious' said in a radio spot.

"It makes me sick to think of those animals taking 12, 13, and 14-year-old girls and renting them out to a John," said Sidibe.

The book documents how the issue of sexual regulation is being used to undermine secular democracy.

Finally, nowhere in the 230 pages is there any mention of prostitution laws. Indeed prostitution, call girls, massage parlors don't even show up in the index. If laws banning the sale of sex toys deserve prominent coverage, one would think that laws against prostitution would at least earn an honorable mention. Unless one subscribes to the concept that the war on prostitutes is acceptable, that is.

I don't know the reason prostitution is left out, but it shouldn't have been. Surely, if the phrase, "your body, your choice" means anything, it gives you the right to use your god-given body as an asset to put a roof over your head and food on your table no different from a laborer, doctor, or sports star. But, beyond that, laws against prostitution sadistically deny one of humanity's most pleasurable and intimate communions to a class of people who are only likely to experience it through the services of a prostitute. That would include many handicapped people, those who have been maimed by war or accidents, those with serious birth defects, the home bound, the bed-ridden, and the just plain ugly (such as myself). If that doesn't deserve mention as part of America's War on Sex, then nothing does.

Sex work in the US:

a global human rights issue

At the International AIDS conference in Vienna this summer Ruth Morgan Thomas, Global Coordinator for the Network of Sex Work Projects elucidated,
  • “There isn’t a sex worker that I know who thinks trafficking is not a gross violation of human rights. Not one of us would want to see anybody forced, coerced, deceived or threatened into sex work, or kept in sex work. But all of us use the agency we have in our lives as we experience and live them to make the best decision for ourselves. And for many people that is not from a range of options, but they still make informed decisions about that as their best option.“

A report by the Best Practices Policy Project, Desiree Alliance, and the Sexual Rights Initiative highlights this issue:
  • “The current prosecution-oriented approach to anti-trafficking work in the US also traumatizes trafficked persons. People trafficked into the sex sector in the United States are forced to comply with law enforcement and endure possible “re- victimization” in order to get benefits and status. Migrant sex workers have become increasingly wary of service providers because of the operation of some anti-trafficking organizations that have provided information about work places to law enforcement authorities leading to raids, arrest and deportation.”

The political culture around sex work in the US is so stigmatizing, and so serious that sex work advocates are at the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva this week presenting a report on the human rights abuses against sex workers in the US.

Seventy-four judges were up for retention in Iowa and only the three who imposed same-sex 'marriage' on the state are now unemployed. Coincidence?" crowed Family Research Council executive director Tony Perkins last week.

Funded by unidentified donors from out of state, NOM and other anti-gay groups spent an estimated $1 million on attack ads that ultimately unseated three Iowa Supreme Court justices for ruling that the state constitution applied equally to heterosexuals and homosexuals, and that both groups should have an equal right to marry.

Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of the University of California, Irvine, School of Law, told the New York Times: “What is so disturbing about this is that it really might cause judges in the future to be less willing to protect minorities out of fear that they might be voted out of office. Something like this really does chill other judges.”

This, simply put, is mob rule.

Sexworker-Pranger im Internet/U.S.A.

Katie gran defends prostitution

(UKPA) – 14 hours ago

Katie Waissel's porn star grandmother has defended her prostitution career and declared: "It gives me great satisfaction."

In an interview with The Sun, the X Factor wannabe's gran Sheila Vogel-Coupe, who is 81, was defiant about her decision to sell sex.

She said she gave up a voluntary job little over a week ago to concentrate more fully on prostitution, but has been offering her services since stumbling across an escort agency online two years ago. Her family said yesterday they were "completely shocked" after learning about her "immoral activities".

And Katie's sister Natalie Davis said the family "disassociate ourselves wholly" from her activities.

But Sheila told The Sun today: "I work as a prostitute because I love it. It gives me great satisfaction and keeps me young."

She said she could continue doing it for years and has had clients as young as 23. "I'm not cheap and common and what I'm dong is not cheap and common.

"I'm the sort of person who will have a go at anything. I'm not afraid. I've done bungee jumping and all sorts," she added.

Sheila has taken on the services of PR guru Max Clifford since revelations about her life as a prostitute were made by a Sunday newspaper.

After the revelation of her sex career, Sheila said her X Factor star granddaughter Katie screamed at her over the phone. "She thinks I heaped shame on them," the octogenarian said.

Katie put her family problems behind her last night as she joined other X Factor contestants at a London fashion show for Very.co.uk. She and Cher Lloyd were seen giggling as they chatted and watched the Christmas Catwalk Show at Victoria House in Bloomsbury.

Ausführliches Interview zum International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers

Protecting Prostitutes, United Nations Style

— By Titania Kumeh
| Fri Dec. 17, 2010 6:26 PM PST

In early November, a trans woman ex-sex worker who'd worked in Washington, DC (who we'll call Regina to protect her identity) and a 20-year sex worker rights advocate named Penelope Saunders appeared at the Palais des Nations in Geneva to lobby UN delegates reviewing the US's human rights record. Holding a report (PDF) assembled by an international coalition of advocacy groups, Regina and Penelope tried to talk ambassadors from Columbia, Australia, New Zealand, and 12 other countries into recommending that the US dismantle its anti-prostitution policies. The report suggests that all mandatory minimum sentencing guidelines for those arrested under prostitution charges should be repealed. And that sex workers arrested and charged under prostitution laws should have their records cleared. Support services like education, job training, and healthcare should replace criminal charges, it adds.

[..]

Mother Jones caught up with Regina on Skype and Penelope over email to talk about Geneva, feminism, and what decriminalized prostitution in the United States could look like.

[...]

MJ: What do you say to people who think prostitution should be criminalized to deter people from getting into it or to convince those in it to find another vocation?

R: I think people defend criminalization because they think [prostitution] is wrong and that sex workers are dirty and they’re bad and they’re just criminals and whatever happens to them they deserve it. And to those people obviously I say, we’re human beings and we provide an important service and sometimes the negative affects of the work we do is a result of criminalization and stigma.

I think for people who are so-called feminist or otherwise claiming to be wanting to help sex workers and criminalizing them is a way to help them, they’re suffering from a problem where they think they know all the answers and they don’t. And they’re not interested in actually listening to people talk about what will help them. They want to tell people how to be helped. They don’t want to hear that maybe this sex worker actually felt that jail changed her life, but that these other three actually have different prospectives about it. Anti-prostitution feminists they want things to be very simplistic. But they are supporting policies that often end in human rights abuses.
