Letztlich ist auch das Zölibat so eine Isolation, die den Priester zum 'GottesKrieger' für die Kirche macht, indem sie ihn von 'biologisch/weltlichen' Verpflichtungen/Verstrickungen befreit.

Wer in diesem Thread mal ein wenig zurückblättert, wird feststellen, dass sich schon einmal eine Gruppe von Sexarbeiterinnen gegen die Aktivitäten von Frau Dr. Ackermann zur Wehr gesetzt hat. Auch ich hatte damals die Ehre, auch als Außenstehender einen Beitrag dazu leisten zu dürfen.

Wer glaubt, dass Frauen wie Ackermann, Schwarzer oder auch Petra Dirkes (s. Thread "Sexarbeiterinnen versus Ehefrauen") jemals von ihren Meinungen abgebracht werden können, der irrt.
Da hilft nur: Gegenposition beziehen und in Veröffentlichungen und ggf. auch Gesprächen diejenigen Menschen informieren, deren Meinungsbild noch von Offenheit geprägt ist. Friederike hat mit ihrem Leserbrief genau das Richtige getan. Natürlich bin auch ich nicht faul gewesen und habe der Welt-online - Redaktion meine Meine Meinung zur Kenntnis gebracht. - Das Christentum wurde erst durch die heidnisch-hellenistische Einkleidung und Vergötterung zu dem was es heute ist, aber vielfach nicht mehr geglaubt werden kann (Muttergottes Maria angelehnt an die griechische Göttin Juno, daraus folgend Dreifaltigkeitsdogma und die Glaubensnotwendigkeit der unbefleckten Empfängnis und der ganze Zauber...). Dabei war das Christentum einst eine Bewegung und Reformation des Judaismus (Geschäftemacher aus dem Tempel vertrieben).

- Der jetzige deutsche Papst glaubt wiederum an eine Einheit von Christentum und Logos (griechisch-platonische Philosophie). Aber aus dieser 'Liebe zur Weisheit' wurden letztlich die heutigen Natur- und Geistes-Wissenschaften, die sich von Religion kritisch emanzipiert haben, falls sie nicht auf dem Scheiterhaufen verbrannt waren (vgl. nicht-theologisch, kritische Religionswissenschaft).

- Neben der griechischen Hellenisierung des Christentums gab es auch andere Inkulturationen (Akkomodationen) wie heute z.B. die lateinamerikanische Befreiungstheologie. Damals die syrisch-persische Ostkirche, wo Jesus nicht als Gottes Sohn galt (Trinitätslehre), sondern nur ein ethisch geläuteter weiser Mensch und damit Prophet war (unitaristischer Monotheismus).

- Aus solchen urchristlichen Lehren und Gemeinden soll sich erst um 800 der Koran und Islam als eigenständige Religion gebildet haben, weil die nicht an die Dreifaltigkeit glauben wollten/konnten. Muhammad (wörtl. der Gelobte) soll tatsächlich Christus den Mensch und biologischen Sohn von Maria gemeint haben, wie frühe Münzfunde und eine Inschrift beweisen im Felsendom Jerusalem, der gleichzeitig christliche Kirche und 1. islamischen Moschee.



War das Christentum so erfolgreich
- weil es in der Zeit des Untergangs des Hellenismus einen festen Glauben vermittelte?
- weil es eine überlegene Religion war von einem personalen und sinnstiftenden Gott?
- weil es eine Religion der Basis des einfachen Volkes war? (Paul Veyne schreibt, eine Bäuerin habe sich der Jungfrau Maria anvertrauen können. Mit Juno hätte sie nichts zu besprechen gehabt.;-)
- weil die Kirche der Nachfolger und Legitimation des spät-römischen Empires war (HRR)?
- weil sie schamlos alle heidnischen Kulthandlungen und Traditionen sich einverleibte (germanische Sonnenwendfeiern inkl. Tannenbaum)?

Dann von "keine Frau macht freiwillig Sexarbeit" ist der blanke Hohn. In diesem Zusammenhang von Menschenhandel zu sprechen ist zynisch.

Fernsehprogramm 3. und 5. März:


Der Westdeutsche Rundfunk (WDR) wird den umstrittenen Papst-Sketch der Stunksitzung nicht über seinen Sender ausstrahlen. Das gab jetzt eine Pressesprecherin bekannt.


In dem umstrittenen Sketch spielt der Kabarettist Bruno Schmitz einen angetrunkenen Bischof Walter Mixa.

Den Papst bezeichnet er demnach als „das Frettchen des Herrn, dumm wie eine Rolle Oblaten, umgeben von servilen Höflingen“.

Auch der Kölner Kardinal Joachim Meisner wurde angegriffen: „Der Höhepunkt war der Weltjugendtag hier in Köln: Benedikt und Joachim, der zum-Lachen-in-den-Keller-geht-Meisner, ließen sich wie zwei frischvermählte Schwuchteln über den Rhein schippern.“


Wenn der WDR am 3. März um 22 Uhr eine 90-Minuten Fassung der Stunksitzung ausstrahlt, wird der Sketch nicht zu sehen sein. Die Persiflage gehöre nicht zu den besten, heißt es als Begründung.

Doch auch in der dreistündige Langfassung der Sitzung (05. März, 0:30 bis 3:30 Uhr) soll nur eine entschärfte Version des Sketches gezeigt werden: Die Ausstrahlung müsse mit den Programmgrundsätzen des Senders in Einklang stehen. Zu diesen Grundsätzen gehöre auch der Respekt vor den religiösen Gefühlen der Zuschauer.

Ich halte mich wirklich nicht für unabgebrüht, meine so ziemlich alle Niederungen des menschlichen Lebens zu kennen. Deutsche Zusammenfassung:

Die meisten dieser Vorfälle haben in Afrika stattgefunden, wo Priester, die früher zu Prostituierten gegangen sind jetzt aus Angst vor AIDS Nonnen unter Druck gesetzt haben.

Schwangere Nonnen wurden zur Abtreibung gedrängt, anderen wurde die Pille unter dem Vorwand, sie würde vor AIDS schützen, verabreicht.

Als Druckmittel gegen die Frauen wurde neben der Autorität des geistlichen Vaters auch das Vorenthalten von Bescheinigungen benutzt, die die Frauen für ihre weitere Laufbahn benötigen. Auch im Vatikan selbst scheint es zu solchen Vorfällen gekommen zu sein, wo studienwilligen Nonnen Unterkunft und Zugang zu forschungswichtigen Dokumenten sowie Stipendien nur gegen sexuelle Gegenleistungen gewährt wurde.

Sister Marie McDonald, die das Konzil schon 1998 auf diese Mißstände aufmerksam gemacht hat, berichtet, dass solche Meldungen zumeist freundlich übergangen werden, manchmal aber auch den Frauen selbst die Schuld daran zugeschoben wird.

Der Vatikan versucht in seiner gestrigen Presseerklärung auch wieder, das Problem herunterzuspielen, man dürfe über diesen unschönen Vorfällen nicht vergessen, wieviel Gutes die Kirche tue.

Während die an solchen Vorfällen beteilgten Priester typischerweise in eine andere Diözese versetzt werden, werden die betroffenen Frauen aus dem Kloster ausgeschlossen. Wenn sie, wie vielfach üblich, keinen Rückhalt bei ihrer Familie finden, bleibt ihnen nur die Tätigkeit als Prostituierte. [Ob Frau Ackermann wohl dies im Bewußtsein hat, wenn sie behauptet, keine würde das freiwillig machen? Anm. Aoife]

Vatican confirms report of sexual abuse and rape of nuns by priests in 23 countries

The Catholic Church in Rome made the extraordinary admission yesterday that it is aware priests from at least 23 countries have been sexually abusing nuns.

Most of the abuse has occurred in Africa, where priests vowed to celibacy, who previously sought out prostitutes, have preyed on nuns to avoid contracting the Aids virus.

Confidential Vatican reports obtained by the National Catholic Reporter, a weekly magazine in the US, have revealed that members of the Catholic clergy have been exploiting their financial and spiritual authority to gain sexual favours from nuns, particularly those from the Third World who are more likely to be culturally conditioned to be subservient to men.

The reports, some of which are recent and some of which have been in circulation for at least seven years, said that such priests had demanded sex in exchange for favours, such as certification to work in a given diocese.

In extreme instances, the priests had made nuns pregnant and then encouraged them to have abortions.

The US article was based on five documents, which senior women from religious orders and priests have presented to the Vatican over the past decade. They describe a particularly bad situation in Africa. In a continent devastated by Aids, nuns, along with early adolescent girls, are perceived by some as safe sexual targets. The reports said that the church authorities had done little to tackle the problem.

The Vatican reports cited countless cases of nuns forced to have sex with priests. Some were obliged to take the pill, others became pregnant and were encouraged to have abortions. In one case in which an African sister was forced to have an abortion, she died during the operation and her aggressor led the funeral mass. Another case involved 29 sisters from the same congregation who all became pregnant to priests in the diocese.

The reports said that the cultures in some African countries made it almost impossible for a young woman to disobey an older man, especially one seen as spiritually superior. There were cases of novices who applied to their local priest or bishop for certificates of good Catholic practice that were required for them to pursue their vocation. In return they were made to have sex. Some incidents of sexual abuse allegedly took place almost within the Vatican walls.

Certain unscrupulous clerics took advantage of young nuns who were having trouble finding accommodation, writing their essays and funding their theological studies.

Forced to acknowledge the problem, the Vatican has tried to play down its gravity. In a statement issued yesterday the Pope's official spokesman, Joaquin Navarro Valls, said: "The problem is known and involves a restricted geographical area. Certain negative situations must not overshadow the often heroic faith of the overwhelming majority of religious, nuns and priests".

One of the most comprehensive documents was compiled by Sister Maura O'Donohue, an Aids co-ordinator for Cafod, the London-based Catholic Fund for Overseas Development.

She noted that religious sisters had been identified as "safe" targets for sexual activity. She quotes a case in 1991 of a community superior being approached by priests requesting that the nuns be made available to them for sexual favours.

"When the superior refused the priests explained they would otherwise be obliged to go to the village to find women and might thus get Aids."Sister O'Donohue said her initial reaction to what she was told by her fellow religious "was one of shock and disbelief at the magnitude of the problem".

While most of the abuse happened in African countries, Sister O'Donohue reported incidents in 23 countries including India, Ireland, Italy, the Philippines and the United States.

She heard cases of priests encouraging the nuns to take the pill telling them it would prevent HIV. Others "actually encouraged abortion for the sisters" and Catholic hospitals and medical staff reported pressure from priests to carry out terminations for nuns and other young women.

O'Donohue wrote in her report how a vicar in one African diocese had talked "quite openly" about sex, saying that "celibacy in the African context means a priest does not get married, but does not mean he does not have children."

The head of the Vatican congregation for Religious Life, Cardinal Martinez Somalo, has set up a committee to look into the problem. But it seems to have done little beyond "awareness raising" among bishops.

More recently, in 1998, Sister Marie McDonald, mother superior of the Missionaries of Our Lady of Africa, put together a paper entitled The Problem of the Sexual Buse of African Religious in Africa and Rome.

She tabled the document to the Council of 16, made up of delegates of the international association of women's and men's religious communities and the Vatican office responsible for religious life. She noted that a contributing cause was the "conspiracy of silence".

When she addressed bishops on the problem, many of them felt it was disloyal of the sisters to send reports.

"However, the sisters claim they have done so time and time again. Sometimes they were not well received. In some instances they are blamed for what happened. Even when they are listened to sympathetically nothing much seems to be done" One of the most tragic elements that emerges is the fate of the victims. While the offending priests are usually moved or sent away for studies, the women are normally chased out of their religious orders, they are then either to scared to return to their families or are rejected by them. they often finished up as outcasts, or, in a cruel twist of irony, as prostitutes, making a meagre living from an act they had vowed never to do.

One of the few religious in Rome willing to talk about the report was Father Giulio Albanese, of MISNA, the missionary news agency. "Missionaries are human beings, who are often living under immense psychological pressure in situations of war and ongoing violence. On one hand it's important to condemn this horror and it's important tell the truth, but we must not emphasise this at the expense of the work done by the majority, many of whom have laid down lives for witness" said Fr Albanese "The press only talks about missionaries when they are killed, kidnapped or are involved in something scandalous" he added.

As the Vatican digests the unpalatable evidence of how their own priests are ruining the lives of their sisters, many Catholics hope a strong message may come from on high. With the American bishops, the Pope spoke in clear terms about paedophile priests, telling them this was a scourge that had to be faced. Some now hope that he may be equally courageous in denouncing an evil which has been covered by silence and shame for too long.

All of these men were prominent religious or political figures, all of them have preaching in one form or another about how you should be living your life, about whom you can love.

And all of them are tragic hypocrites, exposed publicly as fallible, as prone to temptation, as wired for flaw. As human. Just like the men and women whose lives they sought to control.

While these men failed their congregants and constituents on subjects like living with dignity and expressing God-given sexuality in its healthiest forms, they lived secret lives that led to humiliating downfalls. Most of those listed were felled by their repressed homosexual desires, but not all. There’s room in this hypocrisy shamefest for those whose heterosexual closet skeletons emerged.

Now we can add another moralist leader to the comically growing list: Reverend Grant Storms, a Christian fundamentalist pastor with a porn star’s name, is in for some rough weather ahead.

The 53-year-old Bible-thumper made his name in the region after a 2003 protest of Southern Decadence, the French Quarter’s three-day gay festival held over Labor Day weekend. Storms on Friday was arrested for allegedly masturbating while watching children at a park in Metairie, Louisiana, according to The Times-Picayune:

Storms told deputies that he was merely having lunch at Lafreniere Park, 3000 Downs Blvd., in his van when he decided to relieve himself using a bottle instead of using the restroom, an incident report said.

But two witnesses said they saw Storms through the open windows of his van masturbating himself while watching children on the playground, the report said.

The two women flagged down a park employee who notified the Sheriff’s Office. The employee also detained Storms until deputies arrived.

Storms was charged with obscenity.

In 2003, Rev. Storms led his protest of the event by saying, “This year Decadence [Festival] will not be as nasty or depraved as last year’s.” You could stumble upon a 72-man orgy in the streets of New Orleans and it’d be hard to find it more “nasty or depraved” than the act of masturbating to children playing in a park…while sitting in a van. A van, Reverend? Do you have to be such a cliché, Reverend?

To research his protest, Storms at 2002′s festival videotaped public sex acts on Bourbon Street and made the tape available to state legislators. What’s more “nasty and depraved”: Consenting adults engaging in light debauchery on a holiday weekend or filming such acts without consent and handing over those amateur porn shorts to others for their own “research” purposes?

Then there’s the ultimate mortal sin: murder. In 2003, Wisconsin Christians United invited Rev. Storms to speak at the International Conference on Homo-Fascism in Milwaukee. You might think that absurd conference were a joke out of a Christopher Guest mockumentary, but it was a real event at which Rev. Storms allegedly advocated the murder of gays, according to Madison.com:

Action Wisconsin obtained an audio recording of his speech and publicized remarks it said incited violence against gays. The group issued a press release saying Storms made sounds like gunfire, as if he were shooting gay people, and said, “God has delivered them into our hands. Boom boom boom … there’s twenty! Ca-ching! Glory, glory to god.”

Storms’ 2005 defamation lawsuit was dismissed, and after a state court of appeals reversed the ruling, the Wisconsin Supreme Court in 2008 ruled the lawsuit frivolous, ordering “Storms’ attorney James Donohoo to pay more than $87,000 in court costs and fees because the court said he should have known the lawsuit was frivolous.” With interest, that came out to about $120,000.

There’s something inherently sad about men of God telling others they’re sinning while secretly lusting after gay men. But there’s something inherently disgusting about men of God telling others they’re sinning while allegedly lusting after children. It appears Storms’ hypocrisy knows no bounds.


UPDATE: In a tearful press conference on Tuesday, Storms “admitted that he was in the park in a work van, that he had his seat reclined with pants open and that he had his hand in his underwear, but he said he was not masturbating,” according to WWL-TV. “Weeping, he then went on to apologize to family and friends. Philippinen: Orden im Einsatz gegen Prostitution von Minderjährigen

Pilotprogramms der „Feeding of the Good Shepherd Foundation"


CEBU, 28. Februar 2011 (ZENIT.org).- Die Philippinen stehen auf der Liste der 10 Länder, in denen die Prostitution von Minderjährigen am meisten verbreitet ist, an 4. Stelle.

Besonders betroffen sind Mädchen im Alter zwischen 15 und 20 Jahren, doch oft werden auch bereits Kinder im Alter von nur 8 Jahren Opfer dieses skrupellosen Verbrechens.

Wie Schwester Irene Baquiran von der Kongregation der „Immaculate Mary Queen of Heaven Missionaries (IMQHM) der Catholic News Agency mitteilt, werden die Opfer 5- bis 10-mal pro Nacht zum Geschlechtsverkehr gezwungen und verdienen dabei etwa 2 Dollar pro Freier.

Die meisten Mädchen werden von den Menschenhändlern mit Drogen gefügig gemacht.

Die Missionsschwestern besuchen die abgelegenen Dörfer, in denen die Menschenhändler die Mädchen mit dem Versprechen einer besseren Zukunft rekrutieren [gerade so machen es die sog. Menschenhändler auch. Anm.].

Im Rahmen eines Pilotprogramms der „Feeding of the Good Shepherd Foundation" versuchen sie den Mädchen zu helfen. Bei ihrer Mission sind die Schwestern jeweils zu zweit unterwegs und tragen kein Ordensgewand [Tarnung?]. Sie sprechen die potentiellen Opfer, die eventuell Hilfe benötigen oft in den Bars an.

Wenn es ihnen gelingt ihr Vertrauen zu gewinnen, dann wissen die Schwestern bereits, wo die Mädchen Hilfe finden können: Ihr Rehabilitation and Livelihood Training Center in Cebu nennen die Schwestern auch „Haus der Liebe". Es ist für die Mädchen Zufluchtsort, und dort erhalten sie auch Bildung und Gesundheitsversorgung.

Oft werden ehemalige Prostituierte auch mit ihren Kindern aufgenommen.

Gegenwärtig leben 20 junge Frauen bei den Schwestern, die an ihrer Grundschule auch 800 Kinder unterrichten und deren weiterführende Schule von 275 Schülern besucht wird.

Die Missionsschwestern würden ihr Haus gerne ausbauen, damit bis zu 500 Gäste untergebracht werden können.

Für das Jahr 2012 planen sie auch die Einführung von Kursen für Berufungsförderung.

Der Orden wurde 1996 von Schwester Corazon Salazar gegründet und hat heute 8 Schwestern in ewigen Gelübden, 11 in zeitlichen Gelübden und 3 Novizinnen.

Die Schwestern sind nicht nur unter den Opfern des Menschenhandels tätig, sondern versuchen durch ihren Einsatz bei der Armutsbekämpfung das Problem an Wurzel zu lösen.

Der erste führt zu dem Schluß, dass unsere Vermutung, die "Argumente" der Prostitutionsgegner seien ausschließlich ihre eigenen schmutzigen Phantasien, in weit größerem Umfang gilt:
Es scheint so, als sei jeder Versuch die konsensuelle Sexualität anderer zu kontrollieren, auf eigene (zumindest subjektiv) als pervers eingestufte Triebe zurückzuführen. Aus psychodynamischer Sicht ist das ohnehin einzig vernünftige Theorie, jedoch zeigt Marc's Beitrag, dass auch die beobachtbare Realität das beispielhaft belegt.

Der zweite Beitrag zeigt auf, dass die christlichen "Hilfs"angebote ihre Sisters of Mercy and Magdalene Laundries politics aufgrund zunehmender Widerständen in Europa nach Afrika exportieren. Es geht keineswegs um Hilfe für Prostituierte, die eventuell gar keine Hilfe wollen, sondern um ihre Umdeutung zu Sexsklavinnen, die man dann als Arbeits- und Sex-Sklavinnen in die katholische Kirche übernehmen möchte. Umschulungsdruck in Richtung Altenpflegerin sind die letzten Auswirkungen dieser Philosophie in Europa - Afrika bietet da anscheinend noch mehr Hoffnung auf umfassende Ausbeutung der Frauen.

Der dritte Beitrag zeigt auf, dass die Idee der Ablehnung von"Widernatürlichkeit" an sich gar nicht falsch ist, jedoch das angebliche Wesen der "Natur" in christlich-patriarchalischem und nationalsozialistischem Interesse komplett pervertiert wurde. Die Mißkonzeption die menschliche Natur ließe sich durch einige Generationen massiver Indoktrination verändern hat den Marxismus scheitern lassen, es wird höchste Zeit, dass auch religiöse und staatliche Versuche die Natur zu vergewaltigen als untaugliche widernatürliche Versuche der Einflußnahme im Mülleimer der Geschichte verschwinden.

Selling Sex: How Abolitionist Feminists Hurt Sex Workers

International Sex Worker’s Rights Day. Millions of women, men, and trans people around the world choose to sell sex, and the topic of sex work is one that sharply divides feminists and women’s rights activists. In this series of articles I will explore the links between globalization, migration, the ‘rescue industry’, the fight against HIV/AIDs, and the recent crackdown on the global sex industry via anti-trafficking policies, while sharing interviews with sex workers and leaders in the sex worker’s rights movement.


“Feminists are the worst,” declares Daria, a 26 year old self-described ‘sex professional’ from the Ukraine. As we sit in a chic bistro in the glittering capital city of an oil rich Middle Eastern Gulf state, she takes a sip of her foamy latte and continues, “You expect them to be on your side, yes? But instead all they do is tell me what I think and what I want. Even when I say to them ‘I sell sex, get over it’ they keep talking.”

Daria grew up in a poor family in a large city in the Ukraine, and had to leave school at 16 to find work to help support her family. She says she chose to sell sex after seeing her three older sisters barely making ends meet working as maids and cooks. “I didn’t want to grow old looking in toilets. I wanted to travel and I wanted to have money.” She explains that a cousin who had already traveled to the Middle East to work as an escort convinced Daria to join her on her next trip.


For the past six years Daria has been selling sex in the Gulf, where she maintains a small network of what she describes as ‘suitable clients’, and admits she has been extremely fortunate not to have had any trouble with the authorities. She recognizes that out of the many possible scenarios for selling sex, she is fortunate to be living one of the best. “No, it has not been all easy, there have been bad things. But I think I have been lucky.” She looks at me for a minute, thinking. “My life is okay.” She decides, stamping out a cigarette and flashing me a wry smile.

Daria’s work is at the center of one of the most raging storms in feminism, torn between feminists who support sex workers in their struggle to legitimize the selling of sex and secure their rights as workers, and abolitionist feminists who are determined to abolish the sex industry and ‘free’ all sex workers. Abolitionist feminists see sex work as coercive and violent and sex workers as ‘prostituted victims’ in need of rescue. Abolitionist feminists are frequently socially and economically privileged citizens of the global north who use their economic and political clout to support and promote the ‘rescue industry’.

The rescue industry is a term coined by, Laura Agustin, upcoming interviewee and author of Sex at the Margins: Migration, Labour Markets and the Rescue Industry, that refers to the array of people and organizations intent on rescuing and rehabilitating all sex workers, and the narratives they create and disseminate in order to justify their actions. In their support of the rescue industry, abolitionist feminists silence and disempower the many people who choose to sell sex, and in so doing actually endanger the lives of sex workers around the world.

In order to fuel the rescue industry and ensure the continued existence of their funding, anti-sex work organizations are forced to adopt statistics and numbers based on shaky research and promote them as solid, incontrovertible fact. These numbers are then adopted by politicians, repeated by journalists, and finally accepted as ‘the truth’ by average people, until it seems that the world is overrun by naive, powerless sex slaves in need of our benevolent rescue and rehabilitation. But the problem isn’t just the inflated numbers and misleading statistics, but that the policies enacted based on them are so detrimental to the lives and well-being of sex workers around the world.

Sex work is populated primarily by low income women who are already among the most at-risk and oppressed members of society. In many circumstances, selling sex is the best economic decision a person can make in their situation, and oftentimes the sex workers vehemently do not want to be rescued. While yes, we should work to create a world where people are guaranteed the freedom and dignity of having their basic needs met, and a variety of work to choose from, the reality is that we do not live in that world yet, and for now there are people whose very survival depends on them making the best choice for their individual situation.


And sometimes that means selling sex. By portraying all sex work as violent and all sex workers as naive victims desperate for rescue, abolitionist feminists perpetuate patriarchal stereotypes and silence the very people they are supposedly trying to help. By refusing to support sex workers in their quest for legitimacy and recognition as workers, they are condemning sex workers to lives in the shadows.

Most sex workers agree, it is not the work itself that is inherently dangerous, but the conditions they are forced to work in. When sex work is illegal it creates a terrifying constellation of conditions for sex workers to contend with, most of which put their lives directly at risk. When sex work is illegal, or even when selling sex is legal but the purchasing of sex is not, as in Sweden, sex workers remain stigmatized. They are forced to work in the most treacherous parts of town, away from safe, well-lit areas. They have no recourse to go to the police if something violent is done to them. If they do go to the police, they run the very real risk of being arrested for selling sex, or for being assaulted and harassed by the police themselves.

Sex workers and sex work allies have shown that when a government cracks down on sex work it can lead directly to police brutality against sex workers, including their rape and murder.


These crackdowns are promoted and funded by some abolitionist feminists looking to ‘rescue prostituted women’. When sex work is illegal, people who sell sex are unable to receive medical care as they are often refused treatment. Sex workers in these situations run a high risk from violence from their clients, because they are unable to negotiate working conditions safely. Furthermore, when sex workers have gone to great lengths to leave their home country and travel at considerable risk to work in another country, anti-trafficking policies leading to their ‘rescue’ often end with the worker placed in jail for breaking immigration law and eventually being sent back to the country they tried so hard to leave in the first place.

No one is saying that all sex workers are selling sex by choice, or that all forms of sex work are the same in terms of risk and reward. And no one denies that there are people kidnapped, smuggled across borders, and forced against their will to sell sex. But the frequency of this situation is greatly exaggerated and should be examined, a path I plan to take in another installment of this series as I interview Dr. Laura Agustin.

Furthermore, the inflated rhetoric and moral hysteria surrounding the topic of trafficking does little to help the actual victims of sexual slavery, and it drowns out the much more commonplace experience of the women, men, and trans individuals who voluntarily choose to sell sex and simply want their rights respected and their dignity intact.

“I guess I am stupid looking because they always think I don’t know what I do or what I want. They tell me I can have a better life, but for me this is the best life.” Daria angrily recounts conversations she has had with feminist activists who tried to explain to her the many ways in which she is demeaned. She has been told that whenever she sells sex she is actually being raped, and that her very existence as a sex worker puts all women’s safety in jeopardy. “Just because they don’t want to work like this doesn’t mean it is wrong for everyone!” she says.

And with that, Daria pinpoints what seems to be abolitionists’ ultimate problem with sex work: the sex.

Sex workers around the world insist that selling sex can be a job just like any other. Whereas I choose to sell my body and my time by sitting behind a computer screen clacking away at my keyboard all day, sex workers decide to sell their body and time by providing sexual services to paying clients. So, why do we treat sex work so differently from other jobs that we personally wouldn’t want to have? For example, I might look at a woman working as a street sweeper and decide that it is a job that I personally wouldn’t want. But I would definitely support her in her fight to improve her working conditions and secure her rights as a worker, not endorse abolishing the entire field of street sweeping just because it doesn’t appeal to me.

Trafficking is a very real problem that we should clearly be working to stop, but it does not only or even predominantly pertain to sexual slavery. Unfortunately, the plight of trafficking victims is largely ignored if the story is deemed insufficiently ‘sexy’. Recently, 500 Indian workers brought to the U.S. to work in shipyards after Hurricane Katrina are suing Signal International and other entities on charges of human trafficking. The workers have alleged that they were brought to the country under a false premise, subject to deplorable living conditions and threats of violence. All these allegations add up to human trafficking, and yet no one is suggesting that shipyard work be abolished.

However, when it comes to sex work, many people seem to think the only way to fix the ills of the industry, which no one denies exist, is to abolish the whole thing. With this argument, the moral paternalism implicit in the abolitionist stance becomes clear. They are simply repeating the same argument that has been used for so long to bolster the patriarchal attempt to control female sexuality. Women are seen as sexually vulnerable and sex is something done to them, not something they participate in, an absolute negative that is inflicted against them. A woman selling sex is seen as being exploited and in need of rescue, while a woman working in slave labor conditions in a dangerous sweatshop is to be commended for her entrepreneurial spirit. When we examine the two situations we see that they can both potentially involve low pay, dangerous working conditions, and health risks, and yet the key factor in determining which scenario abolitionists want to abolish is the sex. It always comes down to the sex.

Many abolitionists insist that the sex industry perpetuates the idea that women are commodities for men to buy and sell, and that the existence of women selling their bodies for sex creates a dangerous environment for all women. This paternalistic hysteria, which reeks of victim-blaming, is patently false. In most countries in the world prostitution is illegal, and that doesn’t stop the men living there from viewing women as pieces of meat to be bought and sold and treated like dirt. Men treat women poorly not because of the existence of the sex industry, but because of a misogyny so deeply ingrained in our society that its source is all but invisible. When sex workers are victims of violence and exploitation and abuse, it isn’t a flaw inherent in the sex industry, but a flaw inherent in our entire society.

The only truly feminist approach to sex work is to respect the voices and experiences of actual sex workers.

When they speak we must listen. The solution to the problems within the sex industry is not to stigmatize sex workers and drive already disenfranchised people further into the margins of society, but to provide them with the space to talk, and to organize, and to demand their rights so they can work and live with dignity. The best way to fix the problems of exploitation and violence is to stand in solidarity with sex workers as they fight to transform the sex industry. When a light is shone on a problem, it becomes easier to solve. We need to bring this industry into the light, demolish the stigma that is still attached to sex workers, and insist that they be given the same rights as any other worker. I want the same thing for sex workers that I want for all workers: the right to choose the job they do; the freedom to work in an environment that is safe, dignified and protected by law; legal recourse for any injustice done; and the ability to leave whenever they want. Sex work a labor rights issue, and sex worker’s rights are human rights.

A central aspect of feminism is the need to recognize the inherent right of a woman to make her own decisions and choose her own path in life. We always insist that ‘no means no’ so why don’t we also recognize that their ‘yes means yes’? By refusing to listen to sex workers speak their truth or deciding that we know better than they do, we are replicating and perpetuating the very patriarchal norms of womanly weakness and naivety that we have fought so desperately to overthrow. It’s not as exciting to march in a protest demanding the decriminalization of sex work as it is to carry out a daring midnight raid in a brothel, and the stories of adults choosing to unionize and sell sexual services are certainly not as riveting as the story of a 12 year old child prostituted against his will, but the reality of the sex industry is often not as sensational or scandalous as it is made out to be, and it is this consciousness raising work that is so desperately needed.

Daria’s wish for feminists to listen to her story and respect her decision to exchange sex for cash is one that is shared by many sex workers around the world. However, all too often the concerns of actual sex workers are drowned out by the avalanche of abolitionist feminist voices from the privileged activists of the global north. Instead of listening to the women, men, and trans people who work in the sex industry, words are put into their mouths, and others insist that they know best, even when the sex workers are desperately trying to speak for themselves. As feminists we must stand with sex workers to guarantee their rights as workers, help them defend themselves against the police and violent elements in their society, and assist them in earning their recognition as workers and valuable members of society worthy of protection and rights. When we paint all sex workers with the same broad brush and declare them all exploited victims, we ignore their reality, and their demands, and we put very real roadblocks in their path to progress, and ultimately, we endanger their lives.

“Not all of us need or want to be rescued.” Daria speaks intensely. “What we do need is rights and dignity. We want that and we want feminists to help us get it.”

Da die Kirche jedoch die Hüterin des Absolutheitscharakters des Christentums ist, der darauf beruht, daß Gott nur einmal in Christus Mensch geworden ist und Er der Weg, die Wahrheit und das Leben ist, schlug ihr in der französischen Revolution 1789 erstmals der offene Haß entgegen, der in den Logen seinen Nährboden hatte.

Verurteilung der Freimaurerei seit 1738 durch Papst Clemens XII.
bekräftigt durch Papst Pius IX. 1864 mit der Enzyklika Quanta cura.
1983 bekräftigte der damalige Präfekt der Glaubenskongregation und heutige Papst: „Das negative Urteil der Kirche über die freimaurerischen Vereinigungen bleibt also unverändert, weil ihre Prinzipien immer als unvereinbar mit der Lehre der Kirche betrachtet wurden und deshalb der Beitritt zu ihnen verboten bleibt.“
Papst Benedikt XVI. spricht von den Freimaurern als Fürsprecher einer „Kultur des Todes“ was die heutige Euthanasiedebatte zum selbstbestimmten Freitod betrifft.

Der von der katholischen Kirche gegen Freimaurer erhobene Vorwurf von Kommunismus, Sozialismus und Gottlosigkeit sind also kein “leerer verschwörungstheoretischer Wahn”.

“Es fehlt dem freimaurerischen Ethos eine entschieden moralische Dimension.” In dieser Weltanschauung werde das Leben zum Privateigentum, das Individuum zum Atom, in äußerster Konsequenz würde sie zu einer Herrschaftsform führen, “gegen die gehalten vielleicht selbst die historischen Totalitarismen verblassen würden” formuliert ein Kirchentreuer, der lieber die Autorität der Kirche gesichert sähe...
