How to get involved:
The Sex Worker Open University is a project run by sex workers for sex workers. We also believe in building strong alliances with allies and we welcome the participation of anyone in the sex industry, academics, artists … who respect the principle of
self-organisation for sex workers. The first Sex Worker Open University event, which took place in London in April 2009, was a great success bringing together more than 200 sex workers, sex workers’ rights activists, allies and visitors from the UK and abroad took part in workshops, discussions, actions and art exhibits over five days.

Callout for volunteers:
Do you like sex-workers and want to support them? Are you
interested in helping make a fantastic community event happen and even maybe be able to stick that on your CV ? Are you really good at giving directions ? We would like to hear from YOU !!!!!! The organising collective of the Sex Worker Open University
is calling for enthusiastic volunteers to help out at the Sex Worker Open University 2011, at The Arcola Theatre, 12-16 of October. Duties would include ushering participants to the workshop spaces, welcoming people at our info point and doing the door at various events ?We are also interested in people who may have experience in childcare and creches, as we are possibly looking to have a space for kids so sex-working mums and dads can attend the workshops they want.Another GREAT way to help is if you have a bed or couch to offer for participants who are visiting from abroad during the dates of SWOU. We are a volunteer based organisation, and have limited funds, meaning we are trying to put people up in our own living rooms as much as possible, and would be extremely grateful if anyone had some couch/bed to offer. Ideally we would like to hear from people whoare not sex workers themselves, so as many sex workers as possible have the choice to go to as many of the workshops and events they would like to.
If you are interested please contact
volunteersswou@gmail.com before the 3/10, with your availability and skills you might want to contribute or if you have some space in your flat to welcome participants.

Callout for performers!
Performers for the Sex Worker Open University 2011. WE WANT YOU !This is a callout for any performers to happen to be (former) sex-workers and all (former) sex-workers who happen to be performers who would like to perform at the Sex Worker's Open University. There are two performance opportunities, one in our main hub, the Arcola tent, on Saturday 15 of October, or for the more adventurous of performers at our closing club-night, on Sunday the 16 of October (venue tba).We would like to see
performances that explicitly deal with sex-work, either content-wise or formally. Because we have limited space and time, we are looking for performances which do not exceed 20mn, and have a minimal turnover time. The Arcola tent has a fully functioning lighting rig and sound equipment, as well as a projector.
Please send your proposals to
performancesswou@gmail.com before the 26/09/2011. Depending on the volume of applications we may have to hold some form of audition, although we hope to be able to include as many and diverse (former) sex-worker performers as possible.
