Claudia P. (28) ist zweifache Mutter und lebt ein normales Leben – nach außen. Wenn sie in die Arbeit geht, weiß niemand, wo sie hingeht und was sie dort wirklich tut. Derzeit versucht sie wieder einen Ausstieg aus der Prostitution.

KURIER: Wie kam es dazu, dass Sie begonnen haben, als Prostituierte zu arbeiten?
Claudia P.: Ich bin mit 21 Jahren über eine Freundin dazu gekommen. Ich habe damals als Buchhalterin gearbeitet und gesehen, wie viel Geld sie verdient. Das wollte ich dann auch.

Wie haben Sie den Einstieg erlebt?
Ich habe in einem Club am Gürtel angefangen. Das erste Mal werde ich nie vergessen. Ich habe mich danach schrecklich gefühlt. Man kann da nicht zu jedem Nein sagen, den man nicht mag. Privat hätte ich mich mit diesen Typen nie getroffen.

Sie haben nach zwei Jahren aufgehört?
Ja, ich konnte und wollte nicht mehr. Ich habe wieder im Büro gearbeitet und bin dann schwanger geworden. Als mein Freund mich mit den Kindern nicht mehr finanziell unterstützt hat, musste ich wieder als Sexarbeiterin anfangen.

Weiß Ihre Familie von Ihrem Beruf?
Nein, auf keinen Fall. Meine Familie glaubt, ich bin Kellnerin.

Sie sind bei Ihrem zweiten Anlauf auf den Straßenstrich gegangen und nicht mehr in einen Club. Warum?
Im Club muss man fast die Hälfte vom Geld abliefern. Auf der Straße ist man sein eigener Chef, kann selbst bestimmen, wann man kommt, wann man geht und wie viele Männer man hat. Man muss aber auch viele Sicherheitsvorkehrungen treffen.

Sie sind inzwischen wieder ausgestiegen. Warum ist das für viele Frauen so schwer?
Aussteigen kann man nur, wenn man wirklich will. Ich habe den Job nur für das Geld gemacht. Als Sexarbeiterin verdient man derzeit vielleicht 100 Euro am Tag, im Büro 1000 Euro im Monat. Und man hat einen Chef. Und Arbeitszeiten. Das ist für viele nicht leicht.

Wie stellen Sie sich Ihre Zukunft vor?
Derzeit mache ich eine Zusatzausbildung, damit ich wieder ins Büro kann. Die Schwierigkeit beim Bewerben ist: Ich kann in meinen Lebenslauf ja nicht schreiben, dass ich Sexarbeiterin war. Und Langzeitarbeitslose will auch niemand.

I talked to someone tonight who used to date sex workers, in fact almost exclusively, until he got sober. No longer. He purported sex work to be akin to an addiction, and that so many of the people he dated wanted to leave the industry but couldn't. He explained that these women had a terrible time letting go of the highs of money and positive attention, though they wanted to get out. He admitted that as an active addict he was attracted to the sexuality of the business as well as the daddy role he got to play when the workers were struggling, but once he got clean, for his own sake he had to steer clear of sex workers.

I found this such an interesting perspective. It seemed like he was not only calling sex work an addiction but himself a sex worker addict. This reminds me of so called 'rice queens' and 'tranny chasers', both offensive and derogatory terms for those who seek out partners based on a specific demographic they fetishize. Would this guy be considered a 'ho hound'? Where is the line between fetishs and addiction?

I wonder if this is a common type of partner, those that consistently seek out sex workers as dates; either because they fetishize them or because they fit well with their 'addictive lifestyle'. I took umbrage [anstoß nehmen] at this guy's depiction of women addicted to sex work, but that's largely because I'm sensitive to non-positive comments on sex work made by those outside the business and none of my sex worker friends have gone through the cycle of wanting to leave without being able to. I certainly prefer sex worker or former sex worker partners solely on the basis of compassion and understanding around my work. Despite whatever other drama may arise, work has never been an issue with other sex workers I've dated and that is always such a relief.

I'm curious to hear if anyone else has met someone like this, someone who primarily dates sex workers, in a way connected to addiction or not?

THE “happy hooker” who was deported from America after writing a bestseller about running a New York brothel is “back in the bed business”, as she puts it, this time managing a Dutch bed and breakfast.

Xaviera Hollander has lost none of the frankness or sense of fun for which she became famous after the appearance in 1971 of The Happy Hooker, her account of life as New York’s most successful madame.

“I’m 65 and my boobs are hanging but I’ve just married this man 10 years younger than me,” she said in Amsterdam. “I’m having a great time.”

Some customers who are unaware of Hollander’s background may be taken aback by her humour, not to mention the erotic art and photography that adorns her walls.

“The art work provokes interesting scenes,” said Hollander. “One Italian married couple left . . . with the wife saying, ‘Get me out of here – it is pure pornography.’ The husband came back later with his mistress.”

Other visitors are attracted by the “happy hooker” connection, however. “I get lesbians on honeymoon, women meeting their lovers. I’m not involved in the hooker business any more but sometimes my guests will ask for a girl.”

The Happy Hooker, which sold millions of copies, chronicled Hollander’s progression from secretary at the Dutch consulate in Manhattan to upscale call girl. She speaks candidly in it about her enjoyment of sex and her belief that she was performing a social service. The book is still widely read, it seems.

“Young people often come up to me and say ‘I found your book in my grandparents’ house’,” said Hollander. “They used to say, ‘I found your book in my parents’ house’.”

Hollander, who went on to write a sexual advice column for Penthouse magazine, believes she was at the fore-front of the sexual revolution.

She compares running a brothel to managing a temp agency [Zeitarbeitsfirma].

“When a banker calls to ask for a secretary who speaks four languages or a banker goes to a whorehouse and says, ‘I want a buxom redhead’ [drallen Rotschopf], it’s the same kind of transaction.”

She named Frank Sinatra, the singer, as a client and Alfred Hitchcock, the film maker, was also a fan. “He was kind of odd,” she said of the latter. “He liked to get dressed up like a dead person. We’d pick up young girls, sometimes off the street. They’d walk into the room. He would raise his torso. The girls would scream. That’s how he got his enjoyment.”

As for Sinatra, “he was very cheap. Very crude. He made girls sign a document that he was not responsible for offspring [Befruchtung]. He did it his way”.

After battling with weight problems, Hollander’s latest idea is a Happy Hooker fashion label featuring “elegant things” for all sizes. “Trying to get some attention for women over 60 can be fun,” she insists.

Not content with that, she is also planning to bring The Happy Hooker to Broadway. “We’re going to make a naughty, frivolous, cheerful musical.” This week she is in Hollywood, promoting a documentary about herself that won the Philadelphia Independent Film Festival last month.

America has long since forgiven her, but on one trip across the pond, an overweight, ageing female immigration officer asked Hollander: “Are you up to any more monkey business?” She replied: “At our age and our weight I think we’d have to pay for it.”

About 100 women who worked as bunnies at Playboy clubs reunited on a cruise ship in Chicago. “For that time in our lives, we were No. 1,” Monsine DiSalvo said.

CHICAGO — Like most other middle-aged people at a reunion, they talked about retirement, health issues, grandchildren. And, of course, the fabulous parties at Hef’s.

Mieko Nakamura Bailey, of Castle Rock, Calif., worked in Denver and Jamaica from 1968 to 1970.

Su Guerzon worked at a Playboy club in Lake Geneva, Wis., in the late 1970s.

Playboy bunnies, it turns out, grow older just like the rest of us. Well, maybe not quite like the rest of us.

Looking like a sorority reunion from a college where everyone happened to be gorgeous, about 100 former bunnies gathered Monday evening on a cruise ship on Lake Michigan to toast the good old days.

As Monsine DiSalvo, 60, now an insurance cost analyst, put it: “For that time in our lives, we were No. 1. But it wasn’t as easy as it looked — especially in three-inch heels.”

These were the cotton-tailed women who worked as cocktail waitresses in the old Playboy clubs inspired by Hugh Hefner’s fantasy of sexual liberation and male indulgence. When the first club opened in 1960, in Chicago, it was one of the hottest spots in town, drawing celebrities and high-rollers. By the time the last of the old clubs closed in Lansing, Mich., in 1988, it had become an anachronism. The latest incarnation of a Playboy club opened in the Palms hotel in Las Vegas in 2006, as the company tries to recapture some of its old cachet.

Not to be confused with Playmates, whose nude photographs appear in Playboy magazine, the bunnies wore satin bodices and pranced among club members, known as keyholders. Perhaps the most famous former bunny is Gloria Steinem, who wrote a scathing account of sexism in the Hefner kingdom. But the women at the reunion, organized by a group of former bunnies called After the Hutch, had mostly fond recollections.

For Diane Walton, 62, it was “the feeling of sisterhood” she knew as a bunny that drew her to the reunion. Ms. Walton, tall, with flowing auburn hair, was fresh out of Berkeley in 1968, with a degree in English and a yearning for adventure, when she joined the Kansas City club on a lark.

Her traditional Catholic parents, she said, “were slightly horrified.” They eventually softened, especially after her strong-willed Irish grandmother told them to give her a break.

Ms. Walton recalled her grandmother telling her, “If I was your age in these times, I’d do the same thing.”

“She told me the same thing years later, when I was the first in the family to get divorced,” Ms. Walton said.

Cruising on a 200-foot triple-decker boat called Odyssey II, the former bunnies, some with their spouses, dined on wild Alaskan salmon, sipped wine and danced to the song “We Are Family,” among others. The stand-up comic for the evening was Dr. Joel Singer, 64, a neurosurgeon who is married to a former bunny. In his routine, he poked fun at sex in old age.

In some cases, the bunnies connected with pals they had not seen in 40 years or more. “Baby doll,” one woman greeted an old friend, with a hug. “You haven’t aged a day!”

The women had gone on to a wide variety of careers: among them a writer, real estate executive, acupuncturist and New York City homicide detective, now retired.

Karen Drennan, who at 17 lied about her age so she could start working as a bunny in Dallas in 1977 [Risiko: dann automatisch als Menschenhandelsopfer zu gelten. Anm.], went on to become an actress, but quit to home-school her two sons and teach Sunday school. Like many other former bunnies, she lives quietly among people who have little idea about her Playboy past. She doesn’t talk much about it, but doesn’t hide it, either.

When friends of her teenage boys visit, they sometimes gawk at the sexy young bunny in the photo in the house.

“Who is that?” they ask.

“Oh, that’s just my mom,” her boys will reply, a bit sheepishly.

The friends don’t buy it.

“My boys are a little embarrassed,” Ms. Drennan said, “and I’m a little insulted that their friends don’t really believe it’s me.”

The women who worked at the clubs typically took a “bunny name” and reported to a “bunny mother” who acted as supervisor. Judy Sterling, 63, who worked at the Atlantic City club, said she would never forget the inspections with the bunny boss.

“If your nails were chipped, or your shoes were scuffed, she’d write you up,” she said.

Unlike some other businesses at the time, Playboy did not dismiss women when they married — they just could not wear their wedding rings to work — and the women were paid well. “I made more than my husband,” Ms. Sterling said.

The clubs were also racially integrated before many other nightspots. Angelyn Chester, who described herself as “50-something,” is an African-American who was a bunny before landing a management job at a Chicago law firm.

“Playboy saw beauty in black women,” Ms. Chester said, “at a time when many other places did not.”

For all the ogling of the bunnies at the clubs, pawing [fummeln] was strictly forbidden. If a customer became a problem, the bunnies said, he was promptly escorted to the door.

“Believe it or not,” Ms. Chester said, “Hef was really ahead of his time when it came to issues of sexual harassment.”

Many of the women spoke of the thrill of meeting celebrities at after-hours parties hosted by Mr. Hefner. At one party, Ms. DiSalvo said she tap-danced with Bill Cosby.

She confessed something, however, that amounted to heresy in the Playboy world. “Hef was nice,” Ms. DiSalvo said, “but I never really found him to be a very sexy man.”

It is impossible to make a million, legally or illegally, and maintain it.

This wisdom, according to Jeffrey Archer, author of "Not a Penny More, Not a Penny Less," dawned on a Kenyan born sex queen, Ann Wambui O’Brien.

It had taken her only two years after graduating from Menengai High School to realise her ticket to riches was not in operating this business.

Wambui’s intention was to study computer and rescue her mother, Veronica Wangari Muya and her three children, from the jaws of poverty.

In UK, Wambui conquered the heart of an Irishman, Patrick O’Brien, who married her.

Armed with a new name and a resident visa, Wambui migrated from Ireland to London.

It was while she was in London that Wambui, then known as Ann O’Brien, ventured into prostitution, peddling her flesh and captivated upmarket high spenders.

Wambui earned sarcastic accolades from British Broadcasting Corporation thus: "In any other industry Ann O’Brien would have probably won a businesswoman of the year award."

She became so rich that she could afford a down payment of about Sh70 million for her house in Mayfair, London.

The rise of the "sex queen", as the British press referred to her, from a struggling housewife to an overnight millionaire, was meteoric.

She was credited with establishing an enormously successful high-class brothel in central London that took about eight years to establish.

After her marriage, Wambui abandoned her name Ann, opting for Nancy, which she was to use in one of her three prostitution companies.

When not managing her business by driving around London in a sports car, she supervised her kingdom from the top floor of her six-bedroom house in Upper Berkeley Street.

So successful was her first brothel that she decided to set up a second one in Gloucester Place, Marylebone. To give her business a face of legitimacy, she opened a salon at Kilburn.

" My Wambui is a hardworking, God fearing and morally upright young woman. She went after her ambitions in life with zeal. She was always good at marketing," her distraught mother was quoted saying in 2005.

On June 22, 2005, Judge John Price of Southwark Crown Court brought her illustrious career to a grinding stop.

"You lied through out that trial and the jury found you guilty. There were many girls involved and a great deal of money was made. You did well out of it. The prosecution intends to take that away from you," the judge ruled.

Despite the harsh judgement, Price absolved O’Brien from accusations by the press that she had trafficked her call girls, ruling that she only engaged adults.

Upon this verdict, which O’Brien had listened to in disbelief, she muttered that she wanted to die.

Her family was in self-denial as they protested her innocence saying she got rich by prudent investment in her salon. She had bought her mother a matatu christened the Dream Girl.

Ironically, Dream Girl is one of the names she had given to her escort services. The others went in the Names of Marble Arch Girls’ Agency and Nancy’s Escort Visiting and Massage Services.

Although O’Brien was devastated when all her estate totalling to about Sh168 million, stashed in 27 bank accounts and her Sh175 million brothel were frozen, she did not contest. Former Kabete MP, Paul Muite, who is a lawyer, disagrees with the verdict saying the court was very harsh on her.

"I do not support prostitution but I am disturbed even now by this judgement. They were harsh on her because she was a woman and an African," he asserts.

"O’Brien’s customers were serving members of the House of Common. Why was none of them arrested or their property seized. This was application of double standards," Muite says.

The seized money was distributed between various government departments chief among them the prosecution which had spent Sh557,000 nailing her as the prosecutor, Jonathan Higgings explained.

Her defence had also cost her a tidy sum of Sh49 million.

She was busted after a Queen’s guitarist, Sir Ian Rompton lodged complaints about unbecoming behaviour of some drunken girls who caused a racket at night.

Prostitutes in the Dutch city of Eindhoven are to be awarded "credits" in return for good behaviour under a new scheme to encourage them to abandon the oldest profession.

The prostitutes will receive so-called "street miles" that they can use to acquire free designer clothes or furniture, provided they take up an offer by the city council to take steps leading to a career change and a safer lifestyle.

"We needed to come up with incentives that these women might latch on to," said Veronique Beurskens of Eindhoven council, who is leading a drive to rid the city of street prostitution.

Eindhoven's designated sex work zone is due to close by 2011. Amsterdam and other Dutch cities are slowly shutting down their red light districts, but Eindhoven is unusual in pioneering material incentives to tempt women into thinking about an economic alternative to prostitution. Many of the city's sex workers are also heroin addicts. The city will fund assertiveness classes to help sex workers sever ties with their pimps, as well as workshops, advice and courses on how to find new jobs.

"For every step they take to get out of their trade, they'll get vouchers that they can cash in to go shopping. They will be assigned a coach, whose first job will be to help them muster enough courage to stand up for themselves and break free from the trade," said Ms Beurskens.

The council is also trying out several more outlandish ideas put forward by art students from the Eindhoven Design College. Some of the "dames", as they are known locally, have already been given a makeover involving designer clothes to boost their self-confidence. Another scheme in the pipeline is the creation of a fashion label conceived by the prostitutes themselves.

"This has worked well in Amsterdam, where the women have launched their own label and can make money from it. We have plenty of designers at the college who could show them how to get started and teach them about clothes-making," said Ms Beurskens.

But the initiative has been lampooned in the Dutch media, where some commentators have dubbed it the "whore miles" scheme. The plan is also receiving a lukewarm welcome among some prostitutes.

"This is fine if they actually want to move on to something else but some might not want to," said Metje Blaak from Red Thread, the Dutch Prostitutes' Union. "At the end of the day, this is a step towards making street prostitution illegal, and what will happen to the women then?"

She added that prostitutes do not easily make the switch to a normal nine-to-five job. "They often miss the adrenaline rush. They need work where they feel they are really achieving something."

Eindhoven is among many Dutch cities that are clamping down on the country's famously-liberal sex industry. Last year, Amsterdam began shutting down part of its red light district, a sprawling network of streets where prostitutes display themselves in shop windows lit by neon lights. The city is buying up scores of buildings currently housing the sex trade, with a view to closing down the windows. Many of the brothels are linked to racketeering, human trafficking and organised crime.

Prostituierte sollen neue Jobs finden

Die Stadt Hannover will "ausstiegswillige Prostituierte" umschulen. Für Sprach- und Computerkurse sowie Praktika will die Stadt fast eine halbe Million Euro springen lassen.

Anfang 2009 will die Stadtverwaltung ein Programm zur Umschulung „ausstiegswilliger Prostituierten“ starten. Der Sozialausschuss hatte das im vergangenen Jahr einstimmig beschlossen. Gestern wurde ein erstes Konzept auf den Tisch gelegt.

Rund 2200 Prostituierte gibt es laut Verwaltung in der Stadt. Die Beratungsstelle Phoenix geht davon aus, dass etwa 70 Interesse an einem Ausstieg haben, für 20 von ihnen soll es in dem Projekt Platz geben. Volkshochschule und Beratungsstelle Phoenix sollen das zweijährige Angebot durchführen. Dafür sind Kosten von 482.931 Euro veranschlagt, 170.000 Euro davon will die Stadt tragen. Der Rest soll unter anderem mit Landesmitteln finanziert werden.

„Die Frauen benötigen für den Ausstieg eine intensive Vorbereitung“, betont die Verwaltung. Jede Frau müsse intensiv betreut werden. Für die Erstberatung sind deshalb allein fünf Monate vorgesehen. Dann sollen sieben Monate Basisqualifizierung folgen - wenn nötig, mit Deutschkursen, EDV-Schulungen und Praktika. Die letzten zwölf Monate des Kurses können eine Umschulung, ein Existenzgründerseminar oder die Möglichkeit sein, einen Schulabschluss nachzuholen.

Arbeitsmarktchancen gebe es laut Konzept unter anderem im kaufmännischen, im Marketing- oder Pflegebereich. „Man kann davon ausgehen, dass Arbeitsplätze für die Teilnehmer vorhanden sind“ lautet die abschließende Bewertung des Sozialdezernats.

Aussteigen?

Viele Callboys, Escorts und Stricher haben immer wieder das Gefühl, dass sie eigentlich etwas anderes machen wollen. Manchmal ist es eine bestimmte Situation, in der du merkst, dass du aufhören willst. Du liegst mit einem Kunden im Bett und kannst dir nicht mehr vorstellen, den Job weiter zu machen. Vielleicht kommt es dir vor, als würdest du dich von außen betrachten und du ekelst dich vor der Situation. Oder du fühlst dich zu alt, um den Job noch weiter zu machen. Du merkst, dass die anderen mehr Kunden machen und du bekommst Angst, wenn du an deine Zukunft denkst. Oder du bekommst das Angebot, woanders zu arbeiten oder eine Ausbildung zu machen. Und du merkst, wie sehr du dich über dieses Angebot freust.

Aussteigen ist ein hartes Geschäft. Es gibt viele Aufgaben, die du dafür erledigen musst und immer wieder Situationen, in denen du vielleicht denkst: „Ich schaffe es nicht.“ Je länger du anschaffen warst, umso schwieriger kann es sein, etwas Neues zu finden. Deswegen ist das Wichtigste für einen Ausstieg: der unbedingte Wille aufzuhören.

Vielleicht hilft es dir, wenn du dir eine Liste machst, was dich alles an deinem Job als Callboy stört. In welchen Situationen hat dich das Sexbusiness wirklich angekotzt? Wann hast du gedacht, dass du dich selbst aufgibst? Was hat dich gestört, wann gab es Schwierigkeiten oder Durststrecken? Immer wenn du denkst, dass es zu schwierig ist aufzuhören, schaue dir die Liste an.
Erinnere dich daran, was du gemacht hast, als du nicht Anschaffen warst. Vielleicht gab es auch Pausen in deiner Zeit als Callboy. Was hast du da gemacht? Was hat dir dabei geholfen nicht anzuschaffen? Versuche diese Dinge wieder herzustellen. Vielleicht gab es damals einen Freund oder jemand aus der Familie, der dir geholfen hat? Oder du hattest einen Job? Oder du hast in einer anderen Stadt gelebt?

Viele Sexarbeiter schaffen es nicht beim ersten Mal, aus der Szene raus zu kommen. Macht nichts, es gibt immer wieder eine Chance. Vielleicht machst du beim zweiten oder dritten Mal etwas anders und kommst weiter.

Ausstieg ist alleine ziemlich schwierig. Wir von Looks können dir bei deinem Weg raus aus dem Sexbusiness helfen. Wende dich an uns und wir werden dich bei deinem Vorhaben begleiten.





Verhaltensänderungen

Wir haben ein paar Tipps zusammen getragen, die dir beim Ausstieg helfen können. Nicht jeder Hinweis gilt für jeden, denn die Wege raus aus der Prostitution können sehr unterschiedlich sein.

Wechsel deine Handynummer und deine E-Mail-Adresse

Sie ist dein Kontaktmittel zu den Freiern. Wenn es sie nicht mehr gibt, wirst du nicht als Sexarbeiter angerufen werden.

Lösch dein Internetprofil

Du bist kein Stricher mehr, also brauchst du auch kein Profil mehr.

Lösche die Telefonnummern und die Profile deiner Stammfreier

Manchmal kommt man eben doch wieder in Versuchung, auf die Schnelle Geld zu machen. Wenn du die Telefonnummern und Profile deiner treuesten Freier löschst, bist du konsequent und kannst nicht in Versuchung geraten.



Verlass deine Bekannten aus der Szene

Das ist eine der schwierigsten Aufgaben, die auf viele Sexarbeiter wartet, wenn sie aussteigen. Wenn man in die Szene zurückkehrt, um seine Bekannten zu treffen, kommt man nicht raus. Zu schnell lockt wieder der vertraute Mechanismus, Geld mit Sex zu verdienen. Wenn du deinen Bekannten nach einiger Zeit wieder begegnest, kannst du ihnen deinen Schritt erklären. Du wirst überrascht sein, wie viele deinen Schritt anerkennen und achten werden.

Such dir Bekannte und Freunde außerhalb der Szene

Geh auf andere Partys oder in andere Kneipen. Lerne Leute kennen, die keine Callboys oder Freier sind. Unternimm Sachen mit ihnen, die dir Spaß machen und die dir helfen, deine Zeit zu verbringen.



Wechsel deine Wohnung

Wenn du in deiner eigenen Wohnung gearbeitet hast, kennen die Freier deine Adresse und können vor deiner Tür stehen. In diesem Fall kann es sinnvoll sein, deine Wohnung zu wechseln.

Wechsel die Stadt, in der du lebst

Für manche Callboys ist es einfacher, wenn sie komplett die Stadt wechseln. In einer neuen Umgebung können sie jemand anderes sein. Nicht mehr der Stricher oder Escort, der sie früher gewesen sind. Sie fangen mit einem neuen Lebensabschnitt an, ohne von der Vergangenheit eingeholt zu werden. Es gibt Projekte, die dir dabei helfen können. Wenn du Unterstützung für diesen Schritt brauchst, wende dich an uns.



Suche dir Unterstützer für den Ausstieg

Manchmal triffst du Leute, die dir Hilfe beim Ausstieg anbieten. Vielleicht sind es Sozialarbeiter, die für ein Projekt wie Looks arbeiten. Sie wollen keinen Sex als Gegenleistung. Manchmal sind es auch Privatpersonen. Dann kommt es auf dein Gespür an: Wollen sie wirklich helfen und haben sie wirklich Möglichkeiten dazu? Oder sind es Freier, die Sex von dir wollen?



Such dir eine Arbeit oder eine Tätigkeit, mit der du deinen Tag ausfüllen kannst

Natürlich kannst du nicht den ganzen Tag nur herum hängen. Dann wird dir irgendwann die Decke auf den Kopf fallen und das Geld ausgehen. Mehr Ideen dazu findest du weiter unten unter der Überschrift „Alternativen“.



Fang an, Geld wert zu schätzen

Fast nirgendwo verdienst du Geld so schnell, wie auf dem Strich. Und genauso schnell, wie du es verdient hast, ist es auch wieder ausgegeben. Wenn du eine Arbeit anfängst oder Arbeitslosengeld 2 empfängst, wirst du merken, dass es mühsam ist, Geld zu verdienen und mit nur so wenig Geld auszukommen. Du musst es dir einteilen und genau überlegen, wofür du es ausgibst. Das braucht viel Übung.



Finde Ausreden für die Zeit, in der du Anschaffen warst

Wenn du anfängst neue Menschen kennen zu lernen, wollen sie wissen, was für ein Typ du bist. Sie werden fragen, was du vorher gemacht hast. Und nicht jeder hat Verständnis, wenn du ihm vom Anschaffen erzählst. Also denke dir etwas aus. Sag, dass du früher in der Gastronomie gejobbt hast. Oder dass du eine Zeitlang nicht wusstest, was du machen solltest oder arbeitslos warst. Dass du einen Schulabschluss nachgeholt hast. Mit Sicherheit fällt dir etwas ein, das gut zu dir passt.



Fang an, deinen Drogenkonsum zu kontrollieren

Beim Anschaffen hast du Drogen und Alkohol gebraucht, um die Nächte über fit zu bleiben. Das musst du jetzt nicht mehr. Überleg dir, zu welchen Anlässen du Drogen nehmen willst und wann und worauf du nicht verzichten kannst. Schon deswegen, weil dein Geld nicht mehr für Drogen reichen wird. Aber auch, weil du von ihnen abhängig werden kannst und weil ein Neuanfang kaum möglich ist, wenn du breit bist. Eine schwierige Aufgabe, bei der du dir helfen lassen kannst. In vielen Städten gibt es Organisationen, die dir dabei helfen können. Wir können dir Adressen nennen und dich vermitteln.

Hör ganz mit Drogen auf

Vielleicht merkst du, dass du aus eigener Kraft nicht mit den Drogen aufhören kannst. Dann brauchst du professionelle Unterstützung, die wir dir nennen können. Ein klarer Kopf ist unbedingt nötig, wenn du neu starten willst. Ansonsten landest du immer wieder in der Situation, dass du anschaffen gehen musst, um deinen Konsum zu finanzieren.

Andere Jobs

Der Stellenmarkt in der Lokalzeitung veröffentlicht jeden Mittwoch und Samstag Anzeigen von Firmen, die Mitarbeiter suchen. Die meisten Zeitungen findet ihr im Internet. Die Stellenanzeigen aus dem Kölner Stadtanzeiger für den Kölner Raum (mit Aachen, Düsseldorf usw.) sind auf der Seite www.kalaydo.de veröffentlicht.

Das Portal der Arbeitsagentur ist die größte Fundbörse für Stellen, gerade im gering qualifizierten Bereich. Einfach auf www.arbeitsagentur.de gehen und bei Arbeit- und Ausbildungssuchende weiterklicken. Auch ungewöhnliche Jobs, z.B. für Pferdewirte, werden hier ausgeschrieben. Beim Bewerbungsschreiben kann man sich durch die Arbeitsagentur oder durch Organisationen in eurer Nähe dabei helfen lassen. Looks kann euch im Raum Köln dabei unterstützen.

In manchen Arbeitsbereichen ist es gar nicht nötig, diese offiziellen Wege zu gehen. Wenn ihr z.B. in einer Kneipe als Servicekraft arbeiten wollt, müsst ihr euch persönlich vorstellen. Am besten geht ihr in alle Bars, die euch interessieren, und fragt nach, ob sie noch jemanden brauchen.
Mundpropaganda ist häufig hilfreich. Erzählt jedem, den ihr kennt, dass ihr auf Stellensuche seid. Vielleicht hat jemand einen Tipp für euch, oder kennt jemanden, der jemanden kennt …



Ausbildung machen

Mit einer Ausbildung erhöhst du deine Chancen auf einen Arbeitsplatz enorm. Überleg dir zunächst, welche Bereiche und welche Ausbildungen für dich in Frage kommen. Auf der Seite www.berufenet.de findest du Informationen zu jedem Beruf. Wenn du eine Idee hast, musst du dich frühzeitig bei den ausbildenden Betrieben bewerben.

Das Ausbildungsjahr fängt meistens im September an. Je früher ihr euch bewerbt, umso besser. Am besten bewerbt ihr euch im Frühjahr vorher. Bei der Arbeitsagentur, im Stellenmarkt der Lokalzeitungen (Mittwochs und Samstags), im Internet und auf Ausbildungsbörsen (das sind Messen der ausbildenden Betrieben) in eurer Nähe könnt ihr auf Ausbildungssuche gehen. Auf der Seite www.jaau.nrw.de vom Arbeitsministerium NRW und auf der Seite der Lehrstellenaktion des WDR www.wdr-lehrstellenaktion.de kriegt ihr praktische Tipps zum Bewerbungsschreiben und Hilfen bei der Suche. Die Seite www.bewerben-um-eine-ausbildungsstelle.de gibt Hilfestellungen beim Bewerbungsschreiben. Auf der Homepage der Agentur für Arbeit (www.arbeitsagentur.de) könnt ihr euch im Kapitel Ausbildung/Berufs- und Studienwahl über freie Stellen informieren und Termine mit der Arbeitsagentur ausmachen.



ABM-Maßnahme/Trainingsmaßnahme/Ein-Euro-Jobs

Vielleicht kannst du dir noch nicht vorstellen, einer festen Arbeit mit einem Vertrag nachzugehen. Dann ist eine Maßnahme der Bundesagentur für Arbeit oder einer ihrer Partnerorganisationen das Richtige. Es gibt ganz unterschiedliche Maßnahmen von Umschulungen über Bewerbungstrainings bis hin zu den so genannten Ein-Euro-Jobs. Dein Arbeitsberater bei der Arbeitsagentur kann dich dazu gut beraten. Wenn du nicht arbeitslos gemeldet bist, kannst du dich trotzdem an die Arbeitsagentur wenden. Mit einem Ein-Euro-Job kannst du übrigens deutlich mehr als einen Euro am Tag verdienen. Zum einen, weil du es zusätzlich zum Arbeitslosengeld 2 (siehe unten) erhältst. Und zum anderen, weil es abhängig von der Tätigkeit auch mehr als ein Euro Einkommen sein kann. Mit dem Unterkunftsgeld zusammen kannst du mit einem Ein-Euro-Job um die 800 Euro verdienen.



Praktikum

Ein Praktikum hat mehrere Vorteile: 1. Du erfährst etwas über einen Beruf, der dich interessiert und lernst bestimmte Tätigkeiten. 2. Häufig ist ein Praktikum der Weg, um beim selben Arbeitgeber eine reguläre Arbeitsstelle oder einen Ausbildungsplatz zu erhalten. 3. Ein Praktikum macht sich gut in deinem Lebenslauf und erleichtert Bewerbungen bei anderen Arbeitgebern. 4. Wenn du deinen Ausstieg planst, bedeutet ein Praktikum, dass du den Tag über beschäftigt bist. 5. Wenn du Arbeitslosengeld 2 erhältst (siehe unten), kommst du mit einem Praktikum häufig auch deiner Mitwirkungspflicht nach.

Die Suche nach einem Praktikumsplatz läuft nur auf deine eigene Initiative. Such dir einen Betrieb, der dich interessiert und bewirb dich bei ihm. Du kannst im Internet, bei Spaziergängen durch die Stadt oder über Freunde auf Betriebe aufmerksam werden. Wenn du dich bewerben willst, ruf am besten zuerst an oder geh direkt vorbei. Frag nach, ob der Betrieb Praktikanten nimmt. Eine schriftliche Bewerbung kannst du dann in einem zweiten Schritt vornehmen. Wenn du unter 25 bist und in Köln lebst, helfen dir die Sprungbrettmaßnahmen bei der Praktikumssuche. Nimm dazu mit der Arbeitsagentur Kontakt auf.



Arbeitslosengeld 2

Arbeitslosengeld 2 ist für viele Jungs, die aussteigen, ein wichtiges Mittel, um ihren Lebensunterhalt zu sichern, ohne anschaffen zu gehen. Auch wenn die Leute von Hartz 4 sprechen, meinen sie das Arbeitslosengeld 2. Andere sagen einfach nur ALG 2 dazu. Wenn du Fragen zu ALG 2 hast, wende dich an uns.

Voraussetzungen

Meldung:
Damit überhaupt eine Stelle zuständig ist, musst du irgendwo polizeilich gemeldet sein. Wenn du gemeldet bist, gibt es einen Eintrag über deinen Wohnort in deinem Personalausweis und du erhältst eine Meldebescheinigung. Wenn du keinen Pass hast, kannst du zunächst auch mit der Meldebescheinigung zum Amt gehen. Melde dich in dem Ort an, wo du tatsächlich lebst. Wenn du keine eigene Wohnung hast, weil du z.B. bei einem Freund lebst, kannst du dich auch ohne festen Wohnsitz in einer Stadt anmelden. Deinen Pass oder deine Meldebescheinigung musst du mitbringen, wenn du dich arbeitslos meldest (siehe nächster Punkt).

Arbeitslosenmeldung:
Um ALG 2 zu beantragen, musst du arbeitslos gemeldet sein. Wenn du es noch nicht bist, geh zur Arbeitsagentur in dem Ort, wo du polizeilich gemeldet bist. Ein Verzeichnis gibt es unter www.abeitsagentur.de. Bring deinen Personalausweis oder deine Meldebescheinigung mit. Dort erhältst du eine Bescheinigung über deine Arbeitslosigkeit. Die musst du mitbringen, wenn du ALG 2 beantragst.

Kein oder nur wenig Einkommen:
Das ALG 2 erhältst du, wenn du arbeitslos bist und keine anderen oder nur sehr geringe Einnahmen hast. Also keine Einnahmen aus der Prostitution, kein Geld von deinen Eltern und auch keine anderen Sozialleistungen, wie zum Beispiel Arbeitslosengeld 1. Wenn du z.B. in den letzten 2 Jahren mindesten 12 Monate irgendwo sozialversicherungspflichtig gearbeitet hast (also nicht schwarz!), dann kannst du Arbeitslosengeld 1 beantragen und hast in der Regel keinen Anspruch auf Arbeitslosengeld 2.

Zuständigkeit/Arbeitsgemeinschaften (ARGEs)

Du musst heraus finden, wo du das Arbeitslosengeld 2 beantragst. Das kannst du am besten auf der Internetseite von der Stadt oder dem Landkreis, in dem du lebst. Wenn du weißt, wer dein Ansprechpartner ist und wann du ihn erreichen kannst, geh zur ARGE und stelle deinen Antrag auf Arbeitslosengeld 2.

Der Antrag

Wenn du bei der Arbeitsgemeinschaft warst, um Arbeitslosengeld 2 zu beantragen, hast du ein Antragsformular erhalten. Den Antrag gibt es auch im Internet unter http://arbeitslosengeld2.arbeitsagentur.de. Du kannst auch direkt mit einem ausgefüllten Antrag zur ARGE gehen. Der Antrag ist ziemlich lang und sieht kompliziert aus. Wenn du Schwierigkeiten beim Ausfüllen hast, such dir jemand, der dir dabei hilft. Viele Organisationen, auch Looks, können dir dabei helfen. Auch die Sachbearbeiter in der Arbeitsgemeinschaft können dich dabei beraten. Mit dem ALG 2-Antrag, deinem Personalausweis und deiner Arbeitslosenmeldung gehst du zu deiner zuständigen Stelle. Die meisten Sachbearbeiter wollen auch, dass du deine Lohnsteuerkarte und deine Kontoauszüge mitbringst. So überprüfen sie, dass du keine anderen Einnahmen hast.
Es kann sein, dass dir die Frage gestellt wird, wovon du bislang gelebt hast. Sei darauf vorbereitet und überlege dir eine Antwort. Du kannst sagen, dass dich ein Freund unterstützt hat. Du kannst auch ehrlich antworten und erzählen, dass du Anschaffen warst. Dann musst du betonen, dass du das jetzt nicht mehr machst und Unterstützung für den Ausstieg brauchst.

Das Geld

Das Arbeitslosengeld 2 für eine Person liegt zurzeit bei 345 €. Das heißt, du kriegst jeden Monat, für den du ALG 2 beantragt hast, 345 €. Wenn du bestimmten Pflichten nicht nachkommst, z.B. nicht zu Terminen in der Arbeitsagentur oder der ARGE gehst, kann das Geld gekürzt werden. Wenn du z.B. HIV positiv bist, kannst du noch ein bisschen mehr Geld für deine Ernährung beantragen. Wenn du mehr wissen willst, wende dich an uns.

Die Arbeitsgemeinschaft kommt auch für deine Mietkosten auf. Die Höhe der Miete, die das Amt übernimmt, ist in jeder Stadt anders. Außerdem hängt die Übernahme von bestimmten anderen Faktoren ab. In Köln übernimmt die ARGE z.B. unter bestimmten Voraussetzungen Mietkosten bis zu einer Höhe von 298 € für eine Wohnung für eine Person. Die Heizkosten werden noch einmal extra bezahlt, der Strom ist darin aber schon enthalten.

Unter 25?

Wenn du unter 25 Jahre alt bist, gelten besondere Regeln für dich. Meistens gibt es in den Arbeitsgemeinschaften spezielle Abteilungen für unter 25-Jährige. In Köln heißt die Abteilung U25. Deine Ansprechpartner in der U25 Abteilung kannst du auf der Internetseite www.jobcenter-arge-koeln.de herausfinden.

Wenn du als unter 25-Jähriger Arbeitslosengeld 2 bekommen willst, musst du in eine Trainingsmaßnahme. Das kann ein schulisches Projekt oder eine Maßnahme in einer Werkstatt sein. Wenn du Praktika machst, zählt das als Ersatz. Gehst du nicht in eine solche Trainingsmaßnahme, kann dir das Arbeitslosengeld 2 gestrichen werden.

The dominatrix narrows her charcoal eyes and pouts her blood stained lips.

There, hidden in the brothel's cane laundry hamper, is a well-known New Zealand sportsman; her regular client. He crouches down, waiting to be found.

At first, she pretends not to see him. She plays along to the childish hide-and-seek game this wealthy man has requested.

All of a sudden her sky high stilettos are kicking the hamper away to reveal the man sprawled on the carpet, ready to be punished.

"Found you!" she says. And some minutes later the respectable athlete is led to a room to suffer the consequences.

Any working lady will tell you that prostitution is an art.

Two years ago, veteran sex worker and former madam Rachel Francis hung up her toys. At 38, her ‘retirement' age is young, but it comes after 23 years in the industry.

On Monday she is launching her first book, Laid Bare, a brutally honest memoir about the hidden realm of prostitution, her time as a madam running one of the country's most infamous brothels, her dealings with the police, and her clients from all walks of life.

It's a profession, she says, which is ignored, spat on and judged by the very people who seek its services; a profession that many women, including herself, entered into by choice and one that she is neither ashamed of or embarrassed about.

"Like most people wanted to be a nurse or own a cafe, I always wanted to be a prostitute and work in a brothel. The feather boas, the make-up, the stilettos, the hidden world ... absolutely," she says.

Ironically, the very young Rachel Francis wanted to be a nun.

Raised in a normal, loving, hard working family, she always had the support of her mum, dad, sister and grandparents.

But, as she describes in her book, by the age of seven she was acutely aware of her sexuality and the power her body held over men. At 13 she lost her virginity to a boy who went to the same school, an experience she says was fabulous.

A few years later, she entered an industry far removed from the prayers and black robes of the nunnery.

Her memoir attempts to break down stereotypes.

"Most of the books written have been by women who have addictions, bills to pay or a situation to get out of.

"There's no books out there written by someone who knew it first hand, that's been a madam, been an owner, worked with police, hasn't had a conviction, drug addiction or gang affiliation or anything else society pins on a working lady.

"I just wonder if New Zealand is ready for this."

This is not to say everything was peaches and cream. She is the first to admit there are dangers to the job.

She talks openly about her time as a dominatrix and the strange, sometimes sadistic, sad and ludicrous requests of her clients. There was Worm Man, Dr Death, Mr Moo, Mr Cleopatra, Mr Balloon and Mr Baby.

These men include a diary farmer who owned a multi-million dollar property, a rich lister and a TV personality with a penchant for young girls who look like young boys.

She would dote on Mr Baby, changing his nappy and feeding him his bottle.

She would lead Mr Moo around his house while he was on all fours, like a cow, while he ate alfalfa sprouts and drank from a plastic bowl.

She would plaster her body in white paint, don a flowing gown and lie at odd angles while Dr Death pretended to be having his way with a dead woman.

But no one in her book is named.

"I haven't written the book to destroy the sex industry," she states.

"I don't want to name and shame. But I wanted people to know it's not just working class guys that go to working ladies.

"It's business men, CEO's, celebrities and even government agencies that come to brothels."

It's quite normal, she says, for some CEOs to 'treat the team' once they've signed some lucrative deal.

Her $250,000 a year came from unfaithful husbands wanting a private outlet for their outrageous fantasies.

"We had what we called a 15 minute special. The husband would say he is going to get petrol for the lawn mower, but he would come to see us."

The madam would have a petrol can ready for the man to pick up and take home.

"It was like a military run operation," she says.

And with upmarket men, comes upmarket brothels. Many people have misconceptions about what a brothel is. Rachel is adamant brothels are places of beauty.

"I loved everything about it. You'd lose all sense of time, you didn't know if it was day or night.

"It was like a shielded world. There was always candles, low lighting, flowers, it was a pretty world. And you'd come out to this dark grey world and think 'I don't like this'."

To Rachel, the brothel was like a home. She reveled in the sisterhood, the 'strong, happy, confident' women.

"We had soup cooking on the stove and roasts cooking in the oven. The stereotypical movie of the brothel is long gone. These businesses are multi-million dollar ventures.

"They had separate apartments in the brothels for the working ladies. A home away from home."

To this day, Rachel says she can't bear to part with her working clothes. She still loves her leopard print and feather boas. They are strewn throughout her Te Atatu home, around vases and over window sills. It's who she is, and reflects her flare.

Today, sitting at the Westgate Starbucks, she is wearing a leopard print top, with a hint of cleavage, and red lips to complement her pixie-cut flame coloured hair.

Her pale skin and cool green eyes were attractive to men. Red heads were in hot demand.

She was good at what she did. But to her, it was just a job and work was left at the brothel door.

"I just provide a service, do my job then get up and leave," she says.

Her romance and emotions are saved for her husband of 10 years. Gary, she says, has been understanding and supportive from day one.

He didn't even mind Rachel's sugar daddy.

"There's a lot of wealth in New Zealand ... if you tap into it."

And sex workers, it seems, know how to do just that. Spot a Bentley, Porshe or Maserati, walk confidently up to the driver's side, open the car door and ask the man in the expensive suit for directions.

"Of course baby, where to?" he would say. "To your bed darling," the woman would reply, before jumping in.

While Rachel will not disclose how she met her sugar daddy, for fear of his family finding out, she will say he was twice her age.

Anything Rachel wanted, Rachel got.

Coco Chanel perfume, Moet & Chandon champagne, weekend holidays for the family, designer clothes, diamond rings and fur coats.

She would accompany him to major functions held outside his hometown.

"He used to give me that many cheques the bank knew me and didn't have to question his signature."

In return, she would be available at his discretion.

"He's not your employer, and you're not answerable to him, but you're working together to provide a service."

By 33, Rachel was owner of one of the most infamous brothels in New Zealand - the Zodiac Club in Rotorua - bought for her by her sugar daddy.

She has had five pregnancies, leading to a daughter and four abortions. All of these happened in stable relationships, but she says her reasons to terminate the pregnancies were personal and had nothing to do with her career.

In fact, she would have got more as a pregnant woman because it's a specialty. Pregnant women can easily charge $500 an hour.

"But I would never allow it in my club because the client could hurt her," she says.

There were many other rules Rachel was strict on.

Personal hygiene. Health checks were carried out monthly.

She states she has never had an STI and says it's safer to sleep with a sex worker because of the precautions they take.

She is also big on honesty, and maintaining good relationships with family.

"If you're working in the sex industry you should be honest about it. If you feel the need to keep quiet, you should go elsewhere.

Now Rachel's energy is directed at empowering the industry, rather than running it.
